A biopic of controversial Mexican pop star Gloria Trevi is heading to the big screen.

The movie, currently titled Gloria, will tell the story of Trevi's glittering 1990s music career which came crashing down in 2000 when she was arrested in Brazil along with her manager, Sergio Andrade, on suspicion of luring kids into a child porn ring.

She spent nearly five years in prison before being cleared of the charges in 2004.

The movie will begin shooting in Mexico City, Mexico and in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil later this month (Nov13), and will be directed by Swiss moviemaker Christian Keller. Actress Sofia Espinosa will play Trevi.

Reports suggest Trevi is unhappy with the biopic and she is quoted in Mexican newspaper Milenio as saying the project is unauthorised: "I don't know what they're going to say about me. If they do something, it's something I have not authorised."
