CYNTHIA DE LA VEGA, the model who was crowned Miss Mexico at the Nuestra Belleza Mundo pageant last September, has been stripped of her title because she gained six pounds in weight. The model made the sensational claims on Good Morning America and spoke of how she felt "deceived".

Organisers of the pageant withdrew the 19-year-old last month, claiming she had a "lack of dedication and discipline", however, the model insists the decision was made because of her weight gain, saying, "I was very, very excited because I thought this would be a great experience". Cynthia came second in the pageant in September - meaning she qualified to represent Mexico in the Miss World contest, while the winner would head to the Miss Universe pageant. After hearing she had been axed, De La Vega said, "I was very sad and very deceived.I cried and cried and cried". In a press conference last week, the model revealed how her coach had prescribed her a specific diet plan via email, which consisted of "the same food during the same month".

The 2011 Miss World contest will take place in London, England, at the Earls Court Exhibition Centre on November 6, 2011. Miss Puerto Rico Amanda Perez is the current bookies favourite for the annual contest.
