The Feeling Good singer beat out the likes of Birdman drummer Antonio Sanchez and fusion band Snarky Puppy for the title, marking his second win at the second annual prizegiving, which celebrates the work of jazz musicians, composers and contributors from across the globe.

However, Snarky Puppy did not go home empty-handed as the group's pianist Bill Laurance won the Breakthrough Act award.

Other winners included Dianne Reeves (Album of the Year - Beautiful Life), GoGo Penguin (U.K. Jazz Act of the Year), and Zara MCFarlane (Vocalist of the Year).

South African singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Hugh Masekela was given the PPL Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to music and for his political efforts, especially in his native country during the anti-apartheid movement.

The ceremony at the Great Halls at Vinopolis at London Bridge was hosted by actor John Thomson.
