American rapper Gucci Mane was indicted on Tuesday (Dec 3rd) for federal gun charges.

Atlanta police say they found him in possession of firearms on two separate occasions.

The 33 year-old will face two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, the US attorney's office said on Tuesday.

Mane, real name Radric Davis, was found with a loaded handgun on September 12th and had another gun in his possession two days later, on both occasions the rapper threatened the law enforcers while acting erratically, according to the Associated Press.

If Gucci is convicted of both charges then he could face up to 20 years behind bars as well as a $500,000 fine.

Mr Davis' defence lawyer, Drew Findling, stated the next court date will be early January 2014 but until then he will remain in custody at the DeKalb County Jail, where he has been since the September 14th arrest.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports, Findling said, "We are actively reviewing the discovery (of evidence federal and local authorities have in the case)."

The two firearms the rapper possessed were a Taurus 45-caliber handgun and eight rounds of ammunition and a Glock 40-caliber handgun and 11 rounds of ammunition.

Gucci was arrested earlier this year in May for allegedly assaulting a solider by hitting him over the head with a champagne bottle. In 2005 he was also charged and convicted of assault with a deadly weapon and later that year, charged with possession of over 20 grams of marijuana.
