It's official; GUNS N' ROSES featuring Axl Rose and Slash will re-unite for the 2016 Coachella Music And Arts Festival in April, marking their first performance together in twenty years. It's probably one of the most seminal reunions in rock history - and one that many thought would never happen.

There's been speculation of a reunion for weeks and now the news has finally been confirmed. Despite years of animosity between Slash and Axl Rose in particular, the pair have appeared to clear the air - at least for the sake of the band and their fans. Original bassist Duff McKagan will also join the group and, while there's no word yet on guitarist Izzy Stradlin, sources told Consequence Of Sound that Matt Sorum will replace original drummer Steven Adler.

More: Have Slash and Axl Rose made up?

Amplify editor Dave Brooks has branded it 'the biggest reunion since Rage Against The Machine' in The Press Enterprise, and indeed it will be an event so huge that they will be playing not one but two shows at the two-weekend festival: April 16th and April 23rd.

The last time Axl Rose and Slash played together was in 1993 in Buenos Aires, but now the reunited band are in talks to play up to 25 football stadiums in the US this summer - including the new Las Vegas Arena - according to Billboard, with tickets thought to be priced between $250 and $275.

More to look forward to from Coachella is the return of LCD Soundsystem following a five-year break, Sia with her first US performance in five years, alongside Of Monsters And Men, Foals, James Bay, Rancid, M83, Ice Cube and Alex Turner's The Last Shadow Puppets. And that's not to mention newcomers such as Halsey, SG Lewis and Girlpool.

Coachella will take place at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California on April 15th - 17th and April 22nd - 24th. Tickets are on sale tomorrow (January 6th 2016).
