The Snatch director is currently preparing to shoot medieval movie Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur, with actor Charlie Hunnam in the regal role, and now he has decided to take on King Arthur screenwriter Joby Harold's next script, according to Deadline.com.
Robin Hood: Origins will reportedly be an edgier take on the charitable outlaw, who stole from the rich to give to the poor.
Casting and release details have yet to be announced.
Ritchie's movie is the latest Robin Hood film to move into development - Disney studio bosses are working on Nottingham & Hood, while Sony executives are also producing another version, simply titled Hood.
Russell Crowe recently brought Robin Hood to life on the big screen in Ridley Scott's 2010 take on the mythical figure, while Sean Connery also played the hero in 1976's Robin and Marian and Kevin Costner famously portrayed the titular character in 1991's Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.
