Earlier this month couple Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton released their first duet together, ‘Go Ahead and Break My Heart’, taken from Shelton’s upcoming album If I’m Honest. Appearing on Chelsea Handler’s new Netflix talkshow, Stefani spilled on how the couple’s duet came to be, revealing that when she was initially sent the song she worried that she wouldn't like it.

"The story is that he had written this song and sent it to me on my phone," Stefani told Handler. "He's like I wrote this song and I was like 'Whoa what if I don't like it, huge turn off!' I listened to it and thought 'Oh my god I love this.'"

"He said 'Write the rest of it.’” Shelton’s offer for them to collaborate came at a low point for Stefani, when she was questioning her writing ability and dealing with her split from Gavin Rossdale. "There was a time when I was really insecure about writing,” she said.

“There was such a drought of time when I was so insecure. I think when you have a really long year you start to compete with your own self and get insecure about I did that but how did I do that?"

Last month Shelton also spoke about the couple’s collaboration, revealing that the song was written about the insecurities they both had when they began dating. "We both had trust issues. We were getting over it, but we wrote this song about it, and it's perfect,” he said.

"There's not a third ghost writer, there's not five writers on it. It's just she and I sat down and wrote this song … and I couldn't be happier about [it]." The track appears on Shelton’s new album, If I'm Honest, which is released on Friday (May 20).
