After the release of The Force Awakens at the end of 2015, Disney and Lucas films didn't mess around delivering the general public its first announcement/teaser for The Last Jedi back at the start of 2016. Now, well over a year later, we finally get to see some proper footage from the upcoming movie.
Many of the key cast from Star Wars: The Force Awakens will feature in The Last Jedi including Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron and Adam Driver as Kylo Ren who famously slaughtered his much-loved father in a face to face battle that made for one of the most pivotal scenes in the history of Star Wars.
As ever with new Star Wars releases, the scrip and the story outline is one of Hollywood's most closely guarded secrets and few official details have been released to the public. We do know that the story will pick up where The Force Awakens ended with Rey going off into a mountainous setting to hunt down Luke Skywalker in a bid to train with him and learn his knowledge.

Christie plays Captain Phasma, the commander of the First Order's stormtroopers.
Gwendoline Christie has confirmed she will be back for Star Wars: Episode VIII, as the commander of the First Order's stormtroopers, Captain Phasma. Phasma is only the second ever female villain to feature in the Star Wars franchise and no-one was more excited than Christie herself to see the character make her screen debut.
Gwendoline Christie will be back as Captain Phasma.
Speaking at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Christie told People, “I will be in the next Star Wars movie. I think that’s an exclusive, actually.” Originally the character of Phasma was conceived as a male, but director JJ Abrams changed his mind after complaints over the film’s lack of female roles.

Because Hollywood is making some amazing changes.
We like to think 2015 has seen Hollywood re-define womanhood with various movies depicting unusually interesting roles for women. Some, of course, are true stories or documentaries, but others truly mark a true progression in the film industry. Here are just a few of this year's movies that have done women proud.
Charlize Theron is as badass as it gets in 'Mad Max'
1. Mad Max: Fury Road - We haven't seen a character as badass as Furiosa in movies for a while, and Charlize Theron really nailed it as a shaven-headed renegade with a mechanical arm who had grown up around men. She rescues the five wives from her tyrannical boss and gives Max a run for his money with her ability to fire a weapon.
It's hard to decide between Latex and armour...
'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' star Gwendoline Christie has always been an icon of red carpet glamour, known to be able to pull off absolutely anything. And now she's proved she can channel catwoman with the same charm in The Love Magazine's sensational video advent calendar.
Gwendoline Christie rocks any look
In a retro black and white clip directed by fashion photographer Boo George, Christie is seen sashaying up to the roof of a high rise building in London wearing a black latex catsuit complete with eye-mask, ears and Giuseppe Zanotti stilettos, before whipping off her mask and flashing the camera a dazzling smile. The video ends with an interview clip of her attempting an impression of Chewbacca, leaving us marvelling at just how awesome and hilarious she is.
Appealing both to a new generation of viewers and fans of the series since the beginning, this 30-years-later sequel to 1983's Return of the Jedi is a thrilling adventure. Filmmaker J.J. Abrams has managed to capture the tone of the original trilogy while telling a story about young, vibrant new characters whose connection to the overall saga deepens intriguingly as events unfurl.
Over the past three decades, the Empire has regrouped, forming the First Order to crush the Old Republic for good. And the plucky Rebellion hasn't offered much resistance since leader Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) disappeared. The Empire's top henchman Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) is searching for him just as diligently as the rebel leader General Leia (Carrie Fisher). But the real action is happening out of their grasp, as disaffected storm trooper Finn (John Boyega) teams up with rebel pilot Poe (Oscar Isaac) and then feisty scavenger Rey (Daisy Ridley) and expressive droid BB-8. Along the way, Han Solo and Chewbacca (Harrison Ford and Peter Mayhew) find themselves back in the fray. And everyone is startled when there's a strong stirring in the force.
Abrams beautifully recreates the scruffy, clanky mechanical atmosphere of the original trilogy, infusing scenes with witty banter and John William's soaring score to throw us right back into that familiar galaxy. This includes the saga's main themes: the temptation of power, how true heroism is often accidental, and the tension between parents and children. Combine this with a plot that propels itself with a series of unexpected adventures and battles, all centred on the characters, and the film taps strongly into the teen in all of us.

After the victory of the Rebel Alliance over the Galactic Empire and subsequent demolition of The Death Star, you'd imaging life in a certain galaxy would be a little more subdued, but as we soon learn, life for Princess Leia, Luke and Hans wasn't exactly easy following their small yet essential victory.
30 years on and to most citizens - humanoid and alien - the stories of evil Lord Darth Vader and the Jedi Masters are just a legend, a story they tell their children that starts with the well-known overture: 'A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away'. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the seventh film in the Star Wars series and is an additional story to the original Star Wars outline.
The film follows a set of new characters as they join the battle and fight the evil forces once again threatening to destroy their galaxy. The Force Awakens was directed by Jj Abrams and sees a number of cast favourites return to the story including Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.

Amy Schumer’s shoot for GQ, in which she was photographed dressed as a ‘Star Wars’ character, was not approved by Lucasfilm.
Amy Schumer’s Star Wars themed GQ shoot was not approved by Lucasfilm. Schumer featured on the cover of GQ’s August edition in a shoot she designed herself. She was pictured in suggestive poses with robots C-3PO and R2-D2, can-can dancing with Storm troopers and partying in a bar with some beloved Star Wars characters. Some Star Wars fans took to Twitter to express their distaste and Lucasfilm was forced to reply, confirming they had nothing to do with the shoot.

Having successfully rescued Peeta and the other Hunger Games victors, Katniss Everdeen is feeling the strain of being the Mockingjay for the rebel group of District 13. The propaganda is exhausting, and she is starting to become uncertain about who are the heroes and who are the villains. While victory over the Capitol looks in the rebels' favour, Katniss is becoming increasingly suspicious of President Coin - a suspicion which becomes all the more intense when she confronts the captured Panem leader President Snow. He seems intent on killing her, but he's not the only one. When the rebels' methods are shown to be just as hostile as the Capitol, Katniss has to decide which path the take and with the oncoming final Hunger Games, her decision is fated to change her life forever.

'Game of Thrones' is infamous for killing off its characters, so without paying attention to the books (as the show seems to be doing) we looked at who we think is destined to go the way of dodo.
Prince Doran - We've only seen Prince Doran Martell (Alexander Siddig) in one episode so far, he's already made a strong impression on everyone. The elder brother of fan favourite Oberyn, who came to a horribly messy end in the last season, Prince Doran is trying his best to keep the peace in Dorne, and stop his people from seeking revenge against the Lannisters. It stands to reason, however, that his death would make give them a great reason to rise up and start a war.
Kit Harington in 'Game of Thrones'
Brienne/Podrick - Brienne (Gwendoline Christie) and Podrick (Daniel Portman) have been giving us a good dose of the "two buddies traveling", following in the footsteps of Tyrion (Peter Dinklage ) and Bronn (Jerome Flynn), and Arya (Maisie Williams) and the Hound (Rory McCann). The problem is, that each of those has come to a rather disastrous ending at some point, and the death of Brienne or Podrick seems likely - especially with what they seem to be getting themselves into.
30 years ago, the Rebel Alliance struck their killing blow against the Galactic Empire. The Emperor has been defeated, and his right hand man, Darth Vader, is dead. The second Death Star has been destroyed, and celebration reigned across the galaxy. But it was not the victory we once thought it was. With Imperial soldiers scattered across the galaxy, the Storm Troopers have rallied behind a new leader, a new Dark Lord of the Sith. But old heroes will rise once again, and come out of retirement, to once again wage war across the stars. The Force has awakened once more.

Game of Thrones season 5 is coming. And here's the new guys.
The Game of Thrones team has announced nine new actors that will join the cast in season 5. Now, you're probably not going to recognise many of the names - but anyway. The news came during the GOT Comic Con panel, which featured Kit Harington, Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner, Gwendoline Christie, Natalie Dormer, John Bradley, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Rory McCann, Pedro Pascal and Rose Leslie, along with producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and writer George RR Martin.

Among the new faces joining the show will be Alexander Siddig, who plays Doran Martell, the rule of Dorne and the older brother of the slain Oberyn. You might recognise Siddig from '24'.

It looks like JJ Abrams and his team are building a full-size Millennium Falcon for the new movie.
We have been given our first look at the brand new Millennium Falcon that is being built for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, thanks to an alleged photo leak TMZ has published. The new shots, which are purported to feature full-size space vehicles from the sci-fi franchise, have strongly hinted that Han Solo's iconic spaceship and others will be included in Jj Abrams upcoming reboot.
If the photos are real, they are evidence that Abrams' team has decided to create full-size versions of the vehicles that George Lucas' movies only made in miniature model sizes. It will also indicate that Episode VII will use minimal CGI effects in favour of high spec props and spacecraft models. Eagle-eyed observers also spotted what looks like an X-Wing starfighter amongst the other unknown constructions.
The photos were evidently taken in some kind of cavernous hangar which fans are speculating could be England's Pinewood Studios, where much of the movie's filming will take place. Vast sets are shown being built out of wood and covered with ladders and scaffolding as Abrams' vision slowly takes form.

Lupita Nyong'o and Gwendoline Christie have been cast in 'Star Wars Episode VII.' But who will the actresses play?
After months of speculation it’s finally been confirmed that Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o will be joining the cast of Star Wars Episode VII. The actress, who won the award for her role in 12 Years a Slave, announced the news herself on her Twitter account, telling fans, “I can finally say it out loud and proud: I’m going to a galaxy far far away!” Lupita’s name had continually cropped up in Star Wars Episode VII cast discussions and many fans had been surprised to not see her name on the first cast list revealed by director JJ Abrams.
Lupita wasn’t the only new cast member announced. Popular Game of Thrones actress Gwendoline Christie has also been signed up for the new Star Wars film. Lucasfilm president and producer Kathleen Kennedy said, “I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII…It’s thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape.”
Lupita Nyong'o had long been rumoured to be joined the cast of Star Wars Episode VII
Way to recover from a tight spot, J.J. Abrams and co.
Good news for Star Wars fans, Lupita fans and just people who enjoy good things in general – Lupita Nyong’o has joined the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. Kudos to whoever is making the casting decisions there, by the way. After the original casting was criticised for basically populating the film with all white men, hiring the most promising young Oscar winner of 2014 is probably the best way to recover.
Nyong'o and her impeccable style at Liberty State Park.
And in other “awesome ladies, who we’d love to see kick all the tail in Star Wars,” Gwendolyn Christie, aka Game of Thrones’ Brienne of Tarth, has also been cast in Episode VII. Sidenote: if you’re not a fan of Christie/Brienne, we’re not saying you’re wrong, but you definitely aren’t right.
The rumours were right all along.
Lupita Nyong'o and Gwendoline Christie have finally been added to the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It has been rumoured for some time that 12 Years a Slave star Lupita had been picked for the sci-fi reboot in her first live action role since winning her Oscar this year and now we have the confirmation.
In the latest wave of casting announcements since the big reveal at the end of April, Lupita is joined by Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie in Jj Abrams addition to George Lucas' much-loved franchise. "I can finally say it out loud and proud: I'm going to a galaxy far far away!" Nyong'o excitedly posted via Instagram.
