Gwyneth Paltrow and her signing beau, Chris Martin, have called it a day on their marriage. The pair, who married in December 2003, made the announcement of their relationship coming to an end via the 41 actress's own website, Goop, on Tuesday (March 25th).

In a post titled 'Conscious Uncoupling' the couple write, "It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate."

"We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us," the statement reads. "And we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate."

"We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been," Martin's and Paltrow's post continues. "We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time."

"We have always conducted our relationship privately," the pair conclude, "and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and co-parent, we will be able to continue in the same manner."

They met backstage at one of Coldplay's concerts back in 2002, and married a year later in a Southern California ceremony.

Since their winter wedding (2003), the duo have been through several difficult times in their relationship, and last spring (2013) Paltrow opened up about these "hard" times to Glamour U.K.

"It's hard being married," she said. "You go through great times, you go through terrible times. We're the same as any couple."

The Coldplay frontman and the 'Iron Man' actress are parents to two children, daughter Apple, 9, and son Moses, 7.
