Gwyneth Paltrow’s “conscious uncoupling“ has been the talk of the internet for about two weeks now, possibly because she used the term “conscious uncoupling” to describe it. But it turns out that the Iron Man actress had intended to keep her divorce from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin a secret for as long as possible. According to the New York Post’s Page Six, Paltrow would have been perfectly happy to keep up appearances and give the impression that the marriage was just fine for a few more months. Apparently, Martin was the one who thought it was “wrong” to lead people on.

Paltrow did not want to make a lot of noise around her divorce.

A source told Page Six's Richard Johnson: 'It was his idea to announce the split. They had drifted apart, and there was no chance they'd get back together, so he felt it was wrong to keep pretending.'

Since announcing their separation, Paltrow and Martin have steered clear of the media by jetting off to the Bahamas with their two kids, Apple and Moses. It looks like they’ve been able to maintain some privacy, despite Paltrow’s announcement. Last month, the actress wrote on her GOOP website, in a post entitled “Conscious Uncoupling”:

'We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate.

'We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been.'

It sounds like they’re handling the situation pretty well.
