Remember when Gwyneth Paltrow p*ssed off practically every working mother in the whole world? The Iron Man actress controversially explained to E! News why she plans on putting her career on hold to focus on her two children, Apple and Moses.

Gwyneth Paltrow mommy warsGwyneth Paltrow has angered working mothers with her comments

Paltrow said, “I think it’s different when you have an office job, because it’s routine and, you know, you can do all the stuff in the morning and then you come home in the evening…When you’re shooting a movie, they’re like, ‘We need you to go to Wisconsin for two weeks,’ and then you work 14 hours a day and that part of it is very difficult. I think to have a regular job and be a mom is not as, of course there are challenges, but it’s not like being on set.”

So, mothers all around the world were all, “Boohoo, poor Gwyneth Paltrow has to work 14 hour days for a couple of weeks and then get like, millions of dollars, and then spends the rest of the year at home cooking vegan food and doing yoga.” Basically, it didn’t go down well.

Gwyneth does get a lot of stick, often she brings it on herself by using phrases like “conscious uncoupling” in exchange for “divorce”, but this time, she’s decided to respond to her critics to explain what she meant.

Posting on her blog GOOP (incidentally, the same place that she posts all those vegan recipes and yoga stances, or whatever else she does during her 40-week hiatus), Paltrow wrote a blog, titled ‘Mommy Wars.’ In it, the actress writes: “As the mommy wars rage on, I am constantly perplexed and amazing by how little slack we cut each other as women…Why do we feel so entitled to opine, often so negatively, on the choices of other women? Perhaps because there is so much pressure to do it all, and do it all well all at the same time (impossible).”

We totally get where she’s coming from, but at the same time she seems to have entirely missed the point about why her comments may have ruffled some feathers. Maybe when you’re so totally disconnected with what motherhood is for the general public and what juggling an office job and children is really like, it’s hard to relate and understand why your comments may have irritated so many working mothers.

Spending weeks away from home and working long days is surely tough, but spending the majority of the year at home with the opportunity to take regular holidays with your children outweighs the temporary difficulty. It’s definitely preferable to being full-time working office mother, with roughly 3 weeks annual holiday in which you must pack in an entire year of missed time with your children.

Gwyneth Paltrow mommy warsPaltrow's response doesn't reallty recognise the reason her comment may have offended people

A simple "I'm sorry, I have no idea how long and hard working in an office actually is, as I've never done it," would have appeased far more people than the pretentious "Mommy Wars" post.

We regularly try to stick up for Gwyneth, but sometimes she’s just too distanced from the real world that it’s difficult to sympathise in any way.
