Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin announced their marriage had come to an end earlier this week.

But it seems its affecting other members of the family as well.

Paltrow's mother, actress Blythe Danner, is devastated that they have called it a day on their marriage, according to Us Weekly.

"[She's] really upset. She loves Chris," an insider told the magazine. "She begged Gwyneth not to end it, that he's a good man. But Gwyneth had to do what she felt was best."

"They really tried to make it work," the source added. "You could tell something was wrong, though, over the last few months. You could see a sadness in each of their eyes."

The celebrity couple called it quits after being married for ten years. They first met backstage at one of Coldplay's concerts back in 2002, and had their wedding year later in a secret Southern California ceremony.

Paltrow's father Dannie stayed married to her mother for 33 years until his death in 2002, and in the summer of 2013 she opened up about talking to him about how to maintain a marriage.

"I asked my dad once, 'How did you and Mom stay married for 33 years?' And he said, 'Well, we never wanted to get divorced at the same time,'" the Iron Man star said in Glamour U.K.

"I think that's what happens," she added. "When two people throw in the towel at the same time, then you break up, but if one person's saying, 'Come on, we can do this,' you carry on."
