Halle Berry has finally joined social media, signing up to both Twitter and Instagram this week, and she turned a few heads with her first ever post.

The 49 year old actress and former model took a topless photo – with her back turned, natch – while standing in a wooded area. “Hi everyone…” she began her post on Tuesday (March 29th).

“I'm looking forward to sharing our world through images that reflect my emotions and perceptions. I am in awe of photography and its ability to capture and reflect this extraordinary world that we live in,” she wrote in her debut post.

Berry is arguably one of the most famous people to have not joined in social media thusfar, but it seems that she’s prepared to make up for that, explaining the bold choice of first picture by talking about her love of the natural world.

“I'm excited to share with you my love of nature, the arts, fashion and much more in the hopes that the images will inspire, promote conversation and bring you joy,” the mother of two, who recently divorced her third husband Olivier Martinez, wrote.

Nearly 39,000 likes is a pretty stunningly good effort for a first try at social media, and in the 24 hours since she posted she’s gained more than 36,000 fans on Twitter and a staggering 172,000 on Instagram. Nailed down.

For her Twitter account, she used a picture of her face partially obscured by her hair and a large floppy hat. On Instagram, she used a quotation by Thoreau that reads: “It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see”.
