Harrison Ford Opens Up About Near-Fatal Plane Crash

Harrison Ford Jimmy Kimmel Star Wars Jj Abrams

Harrison Ford has spoken for the first time about his miraculous escape from a plane crash seven months ago, after a vintage light aeroplane he was piloting crash-landed on a golf course on the outskirts of Los Angeles.

It was only thanks to Ford’s impeccable skills and execution that he managed to walk away relatively unscathed, and what happened would have been fatal under almost any other circumstance, crash investigators revealed soon after the accident back in March.

The 73 year old appeared on a special Star Wars / Halloween edition of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ – dressed as a hot dog, natch – and spoke about his recollections of the incident, as well as the new movie.

It's been thirty years since the Rebel Alliance; led by the noble Luke Skywalker, the intrepid Princess Leia and the lionhearted Han Solo; finally defeated Emperor Palpatine of the Galactic Empire, alongside his redeemed assistant Darth Vader. The second Death Star was reduced to rubble, and the galaxy was free from a tyrannous evil once more. If only that were true. For there can never be good without evil, and sure enough another Dark Lord, Supreme Leader Snoke, has arisen to take the Emperor's place, with even more brutal plans for the civilians across the stars. But this time there are also new heroes, better equipped to deal with the ever looming terror thanks to an example set by the now ageing former Han, Luke and Leia. They are now preparing to help a vindicated former stormtrooper named Finn, an independent scavenger called Rey, and Poe Dameron who is a Resistance X-Wing pilot.

Secret Cinema Presents Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back Review

Essential

Secret Cinema's Star Wars event is a mind-blowing experience of a lifetime for any Star Wars fan. Running in London over 100 nights from June 4th to September 27th, it's more than twice as big as last summer's gigantic Back to the Future project. The epic installation lets visitors live events from Episode IV: A New Hope before an interactive screening of Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, the best of the six films to date. And with a cast of 400 performers merging seamlessly into the costumed audience, it's an unforgettable evening.

It begins with an evacuation, as earth-based rebels are called to a secret London location. Before arriving, we are given an identity and wardrobe advice (I was Niles Torwyn, galactic explorer) and told to stay low and keep our faces covered. At Earth Cargo Airlines, we are herded into a loading bay and transported through space to Mos Eisley spaceport on the desert planet Tatooine, where we have several hours to walk around the bustling market town, paying for food and drink with galactic credits while engaging with the people around us. Speaking to strangers or walking into doorways will result in quests and training exercises. And among the crowd, there's a chance to interact with characters like Old Ben Kenobi, Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2-D2 and a gang of fast-talking Jawas, but avoid eye contact with the Storm Troopers. There are also special cocktails and music in the busy Cantina Bar before another transport whisks us off to a Rebel Base and the Death Star itself.

Along the way, virtually the entire final act of A New Hope is taking place around us, often in ways that send chills down the spine. It's a thrilling re-creation of a film that transformed our childhood, and there are at least two "wow" moments that are almost overwhelming. This is followed by the next chapter in the story, a bright digital screening of The Empire Strikes Back accompanied by some very cool live action. Originally released in 1980, the film stands up remarkably well with its sarcastic humour, brittle emotions and some very dark drama, leading to a wonderfully maddening cliffhanger ending. Best of all is the way the script remains centred on the characters, twisting and deepening them while allowing Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher to further develop their most iconic roles.

Original 'Star Wars' Script Features Protagonist "Luke Starkiller"

An original script for the first Star Wars movie has been discovered collecting dust deep in the archives of the University of New Brunswick library in Saint John.

Librarian Kristian Brown was tasked with sifting through the library's vast science fiction collection to digitize all of the zines, pulp magazines and novels. However, just as Brown was coming to the end of the job he discovered what appears to be an original shooting script for the 1977 classic.

Five Reasons Why 2015 Is The Year Of The Blockbuster

Chris Pratt Daniel Craig Harrison Ford

Cast your mind back to 2014, a year in which US box-office takings fell by 5% compared to the previous year. There were many memorable films, from Oscar winners like Birdman to highly anticipated adventures like Interstellar

Interstellar screenInterstellar's $673million tally wasn't out of this world

But what 2014 lacked was a consistent stream of killer blockbuster titles. Sure, there was Transformers: Age of Extinction - 2014's biggest film - and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, the year's next highest-grossing movie. And superhero fans were well-catered for, with Guardians of the Galaxy topping a list that included Captain America, X-Men and Spider-Man

The Age Of Adaline Review

Good

Like Benjamin Button, this drama plays around with the human lifespan, is slickly produced and feels far too serious for its own good. There's a sweeping romanticism to the premise, but it's ultimately so sentimental that it becomes rather corny. Fans of Nicholas Sparks-style movies will adore every golden-hued moment and yearning glance. More cynical viewers will enjoy the premise and performances, but will find the tidal wave of plot twists too yucky to bear.

In present-day San Francisco, Adaline (Blake Lively) is preparing to change identities as she does every decade or so. She's been 29 since a fateful accident in 1933 stopped her ageing process, due to a convergence of random factors at the time of a car crash, and she doesn't want to arouse suspicion. The only person who knows her secret is her daughter Flemming (Ellen Burstyn), who after all this time now introduces herself as Adaline's grandmother. Then the dashing Ellis (Michiel Huisman) tenaciously starts pursuing Adaline, and Flemming encourages her to stop running. So she decides to let herself live for a change, travelling with Ellis for a weekend to meet his parents (Harrison Ford and Kathy Baker). But fate has a few more surprises in store.

The story is told by an omniscient narrator (Hugh Ross) and camerawork that often stares down from a godlike point of view, as if Adaline has no say in her own story. And without a sense of humour or irony, it's tricky for a film audience to root for her. The story is engaging, and it's enjoyable to watch the events unfold, but the moment the plot loudly clanks into gear the film becomes difficult to like. Revelations and coincidences pile on top of each other in the story's final act, making everything both achingly emotional and suspiciously convenient.

Star Wars Disney Harrison Ford Carrie Fisher Ewan McGregor Samuel L Jackson

'Star Wars' is a phenomenon. The oddball 1977 original movie (later deemed to be "Part 4") was the first true blockbuster, changing the way movies are merchandised and reigniting the steadily dying science fiction genre. It turned the space opera into a crowd-pleasing licence to print money, and we all love it for that. On the other hand, the best way to send any self-respecting geek into a fit of frothing rage is even allude to the prequel trilogy without discussing how you would have made it better yourself.

The thing is, the original trilogy is still held in such high regard, that the series is still a viable investment; not only are we getting an entirely new trilogy beginning at the end of 2015, but a remastered collection of the entire saga so far is set to be released digitally online on 10th April, 2015. As if you needed something to get you in the mood.
