Simon Cowell caused a bit of an awkward moment at the Music Industry Trust Awards on Monday evening. Accepting the 24th MITS award in recognition of his contribution to the music and entertainment industry as well as his charity work, the ‘X-Factor’ judge thought the time was right to make a Zayn Malik joke in front of his former bandmates.

Taking to the stage to accept the award from the One Direction boys, Cowell quipped: "Just by luck I get the award I've been wanting all my life and I'm completely hammered. Guys, who misses Zayn?”

Many a fan was left upset by One Direction’s last-minute cancellation of their huge gig in Belfast earlier this week, but the reason for it may be more serious than people thought.

One Direction have announced they will play the SSE Arena in Belfast on Friday, after cancelling Tuesday night’s show when band member Liam Payne fell ill. The show on Tuesday evening was set to be the first of a three night run in Belfast for the boyband, however fans have been assured that tonight and tomorrow's shows are going ahead as planned.

One Direction unleashed their new single ‘Perfect’ upon the world on Friday morning, and the song’s potential subject matter has got the Twittersphere in a frenzy!

1D fans have been speculating that the new song’s lyrics are about Harry Styles’ ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift, whom the singer dated for three months between October 2012 and January 2013.

“If you're looking for someone to write your breakup songs about / baby I'm perfect, baby we're perfect” go the words to the chorus, possibly a reference to Swift’s fondness for writing songs about her ex-partners. However, the potential Swifty allusions don’t stop there.

Miley Cyrus has been voted the worst celebrity role model for children in a new survey of British parents. A whopping 78% of parents of children under 10 say that the former ‘Hannah Montana’ star is “off the rails” and wouldn’t want their kids to idolise her.

The survey by British website vouchercloud.com asked 2,287 British parents, all of whom have at least one child under the age of 10, the question: “are there any celebrities you would hate for your children to idolise?” and were provided with a list of male and female celebrities to select from.

One Direction fans have been going into panic mode since Monday, when the news broke that the boyband were planning to go on a year long hiatus starting next March. But while the band had initially stayed quiet on the reports, three members have now taken to twitter to try and assure fans this is not the end.

Just a day after Zayn Malik said that he had left them to make “#realmusic”, One Direction are showing that life continues without him as they dropped their first single as a quartet on Friday morning, entitled ‘Drag Me Down’.

Zayn Malik has made his first public appearance since leaving One Direction, at the fifth Annual Asian Awards. The 22 year old debut a new shaved hairstyle at the event, where he was accompanied by his mother Trisha Malik.

American hitmaker Meghan Trainor has confirmed a match made in pop songwriting heaven by revealing that she’s written a song with One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles.

The 21 year old dropped by BBC Radio 1 on Tuesday morning and told host Nick Grimshaw that the “cute acoustic love” song is called ‘Someday Maybe’. Grimshaw was asking Trainor about an earlier interview with ‘The Sun’ in which she indicated that the Styles writing hook-up had happened.

It's officially One Direction season! The UK superstars have a thing for a releasing an album every year around November, and they're keeping up the tradition in 2014. One Direction's fourth album, Four, will be out November 17 2014.

Taking some notes from Maroon 5 (who titled their recently released record, V) 1D decided to go ahead and just call their record by its number in their discography. However, for some reason they opted against the way cooler looking IV and settled for the ugly Four … but then again, they’re One Direction. They can basically do whatever they want. The guys teased the album announcement early Monday morning and followed it up with a video update spilling the news, but they also gave something a little extra, too. In an effort to apparently break the entire Internet, One Direction also decided to debut Four’s lead single, ‘Fireproof’ - and give it away completely for free, too.

All good things must come to an end someday, which means that One Direction is eventually breaking up. Sorry, I know, it’s a sore subject for me, too. They’ve consistently put out great pop albums year after year, so it’s not like they should break up, but being in a boy band with a bunch of other guys sharing your spotlight puts a damper on your own personal success, too. Why stick around and split the profits when you can be a bigger star all on your own?! For some pop acts like Emblem3, it doesn’t make a difference who leaves, because nobody is really going to care about whatever solo thing they do. But groups like The Wanted? Nathan Sykes is bound to get big with anything he does now that The Wanted is done.

With One Direction, all five of those guys are going to do big things too, but nobody will reach a star status as big as Harry Styles will, because let’s face it: Harry Styles is the lead of One Direction. Every pop group has one, whether people want to believe it or not. Nathan was the lead of The Wanted, James Bourne was the lead of Busted, and Normani Hamilton is totally the lead of Fifth Harmony. It’s not insulting the other members, but the leads just have something that their bandmates don’t. For Styles, he’s clearly the most popular, and arguably even has the best pipes.
