Rap icon Heavy D was taking medication for "flu-like symptoms" in the days before his sudden death, and told friends he feared he had contracted pneumonia.
The hip-hop star, real name Dwight Arrington Myers, was found unconscious outside his home in Beverly Hills, California on Tuesday (08Nov11) and was taken to a hospital in Los Angeles, where he was pronounced dead.
A post mortem examination was carried out on Wednesday (09Nov11) and medics are awaiting the results of toxicology tests before determining the cause of death - but it's emerged the MC had been ill in the days before the tragedy.
Ed Winter, assistant chief of the L.A. County coroner's office, tells the New York Daily News, "He had gone to the doctor the day before. He had what appeared to be flu-like symptoms... He was taking medication, so we want to see what the levels were."
And the star's cousin, Ruddy Phillips, tells the publication, "He said he had a touch of pneumonia, maybe from travelling. He just got back from England."
