Heston Blumenthal Divorces Wife Of 28 Years In 90-Second Court Hearing

Heston Blumenthal

Nearly six years after their relationship broke down, celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal divorced his wife of 28 years, Zanna, in a Central Family Court hearing today.

The Michelin star chef, 50 years old, was seeking a divorce from Zanna, real name Susanna, his childhood sweetheart whom he married in 1989, on the grounds that the marriage had irretrievably broken down. The couple, who sold their home in the nineties to start Blumenthal’s signature restaurant The Fat Duck, have three adult children, Jack, Jessie and Joy, together.

The Daily Mail reported on Wednesday (April 26th) that District Judge Anne Hudd granted the decree nisi in just 90 seconds, with the pair having settled their financial and business arrangements satisfactorily.

Meat Fruit? Heston Blumenthal's 'Dinner' Lands Second Michelin Star

Heston Blumenthal

Heston Blumenthal is still way behind Gordon Ramsay's fifteen Michelin stars, though the British chef known for his molecular gastronomy creations received his eighth star from the Michelin guide this week when his restaurant Dinner at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel near Hyde Park was promoted from a one to a two-star establishment this week.

The celebrity chef, known for his three-star rated The Fat Duck in Bray, Berkshire, said he was "overjoyed" at the news and praised his staff at the restaurant, famous for its "meat fruit."

He added: "It's been an incredible two and a half years for Dinner and this is just simply the highlight. As a Brit, I am very proud that a restaurant inspired by and celebrating historic British cooking has been recognized today," according to the Telegraph.

L'Enclume Burns The Fat Duck, Deflates Heston Blumenthal's Restaurant In Good Food Guide

Heston Blumenthal

Heston Blumenthal will be cursing the day he ever tried to make a Hula Hoop as big as a car. The TV chef has been knocked of the top spot of the Good Food guide by L'Enclume – the highly rated Cumbrian spot headed up by chef Simon Rogan.

Alright, so the massive Hula Hoops and edible houses didn’t really have anything to do with it: both restaurants scored a perfect 10 when it came to cooking. Elizabeth Carter said L'Enclume's dishes were a "joyful celebration" of Cumbria's "magnificent diversity" (BBC)

How To Boil An Egg? You'll Have To Look Online, No More TV For Delia Smith

Delia Smith Heston Blumenthal

Delia Smith has retired from TV cooking, claiming that television producers no longer want to educate their viewers, only to entertain them. She will continue to teach the world to cook, via the internet but when it comes to her long-running career as a TV cook, she has well and truly hung up her apron, The Telegraph reported yesterday (February 5, 2013).

Delia first appeared on television over 40 years ago and in that time she’s sold millions of cookbooks, many showcasing basic cooking recipes and others, more elaborate cookery techniques. She caused controversy with her ‘how to boil an egg’ tuition back in 1998 but you know what? You try Googling “how to boil an egg” (some people don’t know, you know!) and you’ll most likely find Delia’s instructions right there staring back at you. She said, “If you do a TV programme now, it’s got to entertain… When I started, there was further education in the BBC; now you have to entertain. You have someone telling me I haven’t got time to show this, or I haven’t got time to show that.”

Smith was dropped “by mutual agreement” from Waitrose’s advertising campaign (she featured alongside Heston Blumenthal) and she said that once that was finalised, she decided “this is the end when it comes to Delia on the telly.” She had been approached by the BBC to work with them again but turned the offer down, choosing to focus instead on her online tuition.

Delia Smith Dropped By Waitrose To Make Way For More Of Heston Blumenthal

Delia Smith Heston Blumenthal

Delia Smith has been dropped from the Waitrose supermarket adverts after nearly three years in order to place more emphasis on chef favourite Heston Blumenthal.

Delia has always been popular for her timeless, classic home-made dishes while Heston has received increasing fame for his inventive and often unusual dishes such as snail porridge as well as his wacky TV shows, the latest of which, 'Heston's Fantastical Food', was dedicated to creating enormous sized versions of our most favourite foods. Waitrose have defended their decision insisting that Heston's appeal will 'excite customers' and will begin to 'push the boundaries of supermarket innovation' and so Delia is set to end her contract on the £10 million campaign in February after being a part of it since 2010. It seems that their decision may have been a smart one as Heston's recipes, like, ketchup-flavoured bacon and, of course, duck and sour cherry bangers, have sold well amongst Waitrose shoppers.

The marketing chief for the supermarket, Rupert Thomas, has, however, insisted that Delia has been a brilliant part of the advertising scheme. 'It has been such a fantastic experience working with Delia', he told The Mirror. Delia has, however, declined to comment further on the decision.

Chefs From Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck Killed In Car Accident

Heston Blumenthal

Two chefs from Heston Blumenthal's three-Michelin star restaurant The Fat Duck have been killed in a car accident in Hong Kong. The as-yet unnamed pair died after a crash involving a taxi and two double decker buses on Monday (November 19, 2012), reports BBC News.

A spokesperson for the restaurant in Bray, Berkshire, confirmed that both men were senior members of staff and described them as "uniquely talented young chefs". It is understood that the pair were in the city to open a new restaurant. The BBC's Hong Kong correspondent Juliana Liu said the men - a Swede and a Briton - were travelling in the taxi at the time. "It appears the driver of a double decker bus lost control and hit several other vehicles and another double decker bus. In the process, it trapped the taxi the men were passengers in between the buses. There will be a lengthy investigation and the Hong Kong Police Department are already calling for witnesses to come forward." As well as the two chefs, the taxi driver was also killed, while 50 others were injured. The statement on behalf of The Fat Duck read, "We can confirm two members of our team were tragically killed in a car accident. They were both senior members and great and dear friends. Two uniquely talented young chefs that were loved by everyone who worked with them. They will be sadly and deeply missed."

Blumenthal opened The Fat Duck in 1995. It was awarded its third Michelin star in 2004 before being named the best restaurant in the world.
