Every year there are hosts of celebrities whose marriages fall apart under the scrutiny of the public eye. Last year it was Bruce and Kris Jenner; Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas; and the Billy-Ray Cyrus' to name a few. This year it seems the first celebrity couple to publically announce their split are former Disney star Hilary Duff and Canadian Ice Hockey player MIKE COMRIE

The couple announced their separation yesterday (Friday 10th January) via a statement released by Duff's representative. The statement announced 26-year-old Duff and 33-year-old Crombie "have mutually decided [upon] an amicable separation. They remain best friends and will continue to be in each other's lives. They are dedicated to loving and parenting their amazing son, and ask for privacy at this time."

The news of their separation has shocked many of Duff's fans, who were unaware her relationship with her husband of three years was troubled. As recently as New Year's Eve, Duff has continued posted pictures of the couple on Instagram, seemingly happy together. This includes a photograph taken at the end of December of the couple together with their son Luca after a trip to Disneyland. Duff also tweeted yesterday, after the news of her separation broke, and wrote "Mike and I are sitting here, we are so appreciative of all your kindness and well wishes. Not an easy day but we're getting through it together."

Duff and Comrie took their son Luca to Disneyland for the first time in December:

The couple have been dating since 2007 and married in August 2010. They have one son together, Luca Cruz Comrie, born in March 2012. The couple, according to People, have decided to co-parent their son and even as recently as Tuesday (7th January) have been spotted taking Luca to a local park together.
