The Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute gala will be streamed live from the red carpet this year.

The prestigious event - which will celebrate the opening of their latest large-scale fashion display, Punk: Chaos to Couture - is due be covered by model Hilary Rhoda and US Vogue magazine's William Norwich as guests enter the venue.

Co-chair members Rooney Mara, Moda Operandi founder Lauren Santo Domingo, Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci and Anna Wintour will all stop for interviews prior to the party and it is hoped honorary chair Beyoncé will make an appearance on the night.

Other guests expected to attend the ball - viewed as one of the hottest A-list bashes in New York - include actresses Kristen Stewart and Emma Stone, as well as music sensations Gwen Stefani, Rihanna, Pharrell Williams and Kanye West.

After being snubbed by Wintour at Paris Fashion Week, Kanye's pregnant girlfriend Kim Kardashian is reportedly now allowed to attend the ball after supposedly being banned by US Vogue's editor-in-chief last year due to her strong dislike of the reality star.

A source told Life & Style magazine: ''Kanye West and Kim Kardashian will both be attending the Met Gala in NYC on May 6. Because Kanye is performing he was allowed to invite her.''

Questions can be submitted to the co-stars via social-networking sites Twitter and Facebook and the red carpet will be streamed live on May 6 from 11.30pm GMT.
