The defeated Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton had a better time of it than the victorious vice-president Mike Pence when she went to the theatre, drawing a standing ovation from the audience when she was spotted at a performance of ‘The Color Purple’.

She and her husband, former president Bill Clinton, and their daughter Chelsea received a number of acknowledgments throughout the show, with adoring fans besieging them for selfies and photographs during the interval, according to the New York Times.

Appearing on the chat show 'Watch What Happens Live!' last Thursday (30 April), Cynthia Nixon was asked by host Andy Cohen to suggest which 'Sex and the City' characters a variety of famous faces would be. And the results were certainly interesting: the actress was quick to name Queen Elizabeth II as Charlotte, both Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama as Carries, and Beyonce as Samantha.

Who's Front Running The Campaign To Play Hillary Clinton On The Silver Screen?

Hillary Clinton

The race to play Hillary Clinton is on! We’ve even thrown our names into the hat! It’s most likely though that the winning actress to play the US politician and wife of former President Bill Clinton, in James Ponsoldt’s film Rodham, will come from one of Scarlett Johansson, Reese Witherspoon and Jessica Chastain.

Rodham will focus on the younger years of the former First Lady and senator and is due out some time around the 2016 presidential election, in which Clinton might be a candidate. It will focus on 1974, when she was a Washington lawyer. Of those mooted for the role, director Ponsoldt told the pay-walled paper “They’re all wonderful actresses. We’re very fortunate that a lot of really great actors are interested in playing these roles. We’re in an enviable position. Regardless of people’s political affiliation or how they feel about Hillary Clinton, you don’t find people who question the quality of her intelligence or her drive. I want a wonderful actress who could embody that.”;

Witherspoon will be hoping that a recent arrest for disorderly conduct won’t harm her chances. The normally squeaky clean actress admitted that she’d been deeply embarrassed after both she and her husband were stopped on a suspected DUI, with various reports suggesting that at one point the actress pulled out the ‘don’t you know who I am?’ card. Oh Reese.

Will Ben Affleck Run For Massachusetts Senator Seat?

Ben Affleck Hillary Clinton John Kerry Barack Obama

Ben Affleck may be playing down rumors that he’s planning to run for senate but that hasn’t stopped the gossip. The Argo director was recently in Washington to discuss the issues of violence plaguing Congo and when asked about his political ambitions, told the Politico blog “That’s not what I’m here to talk about. I’m here to talk about the role we can play in making the Eastern Congo a better place.” Playing down the rumors, then, but certainly not denying them.

Those rumors suggest that Affleck could be a potential candidate for senator in Massachusetts. John Kerry is widely believed to be replacing Hillary Clinton as secretary of state, according to Politico and if that happened, that Massachusetts seat would be up for grabs. Alec Gerlach, John Kerry’s spokesman reportedly declined the opportunity to discuss Ben Affleck’s political ambitions. He did, however, confirm that Affleck and Kerry planned to meet, along with other members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which Kerry chairs.

During his testimony, Ben Affleck urged President Barack Obama to take action over the plight of Congo. “Resolving the cycle of violence does not necessarily require a significant new financial investment by the United States or U.S. boots on the ground. It does, however, require American political leadership — moral leadership even — to bring the parties together to address the larger sources of instability in the region… I may be naive, but I believe that our actions in foreign policy represent our values as a country — they represent who we are as a people.” It remains to be seen whether or not Ben Affleck will ditch his movie career in favor of a life in politics but those rumors certainly seem to be gaining substance.

M-yawn-mar Address: Hillary Clinton Falls Asleep During Barack Obama Speech

Hillary Clinton Barack Obama

If any proof were needed that the jubilation of four years ago when Barack Obama was first elected US President hasn’t quite been reciprocated this time round, then just have a look at how hard Hillary Clinton’s struggling to stay awake during one of his speeches.

MSN captured the video of Obama’s secretary of state creeping away for a few Z’s during his Myanmar address this week, Clinton doing her best to stay alert but unable to give in to the oncoming dimming of the sense that signals sleep. We don’t blame her; Obama’s voice has a rich, deep tone that is quite soporific, and if the room was slightly warm too? Well, we’ve all been there. That said, it didn’t look so good given that she was sitting front and center of the audience alongside Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi, who – as MSN wittily pointed out – knows something about being bored after years of house arrest.

Amusingly though this isn’t the first time a Clinton’s been caught having a nap in public; we found this video on Youtube which shows former President Bill Clinton struggling to be roused a preacher’s Martin Luther King speech, the former ruler of the free world not even able to take charge of his own sleep pattern. Dinner round the Clintons must be a hoot these days.

2012's 'Most Fascinating People' According To Barbara Walters

Barbara Walters Ben Affleck One Direction Hillary Clinton E.L. James Gabby Douglas

We at Contact Music deal in the business of 'interesting people'. We write about them day in, day out, but there's one person that has anointed herself for the past twenty years as the right person to judge the top ten most interesting people of the year: Barbara Walters

For the past twenty years, Barbara Walters has hosted a special 90 minute show about the year's most interesting people. According to NY Daily News, those to make the cut this year include; E.L. James, journalist and woman responsible for the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy; Argo's Ben Affleck, whose rise to fame was most notably due to his collaboration with Matt Dillon on 'Good Will Hunting' in 1997; Teenage Olympic medal-winning athlete, Gabby Douglas; Comedy writer, creator of 'Family Guy' and the director of summer movie Ted, Seth McFarlane; UK boy band One Direction; and finally two opposing political figures, Democrat Hilary Clinton and Republican Senator Chris Christie.

Neither the writer of poorly written fiction, nor an adolescent boy-band seem all that interesting to us, though Chris Christie, Ben Affleck and Gabby Douglas all seem like great choices. Plus, the best is yet to come, as Barbara Walter's top three interesting people of 2012 will be revealed on the show when it's broadcast on December 12th on ABC. Who do you think is the most interesting person of 2012? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Monica Lewinsky Rumoured To Be Getting $12million For Bill Clinton Memoirs

Bill Clinton Monica Lewinsky Hillary Clinton

At the time it was probably among one the biggest public scandals that a US President could've faced, but times move on and we've pretty much all gotten over the fact that former President Bill Clinton had an affair with his secretary Monica Lewinsky in the mid 90's. We had a good laugh at the endless jokes written about the affair on The Simpsons and then got on with our lives as Clinton showed himself to be a man of regret and patched things up with wife Hilary Clinton.

It's a bit of a surprise then to find out that 14 years on from the affair, Perez Hilton is reporting that the now 39 year-old Lewinsky is going to write a full-disclosure memoir about the events of 1998. More baffling is the fact that publishers are apparently willing to pay a whopping $12 million to give her the privilege of dishing the dirt on the retired President.

"Monica has tried to move forward, but the nightmare of her affair with Bill still haunts her" so say friends of hers. "She's facing 40 without a man in her life, and seething about the way her reputation was destroyed as the whole world watched." We wouldn't dare suggest that Lewinsky hasn't endured a tough time of it since, but it still seems odd that at this stage people would still be so interested in what she has to say.
