The resilient actor ploughs on with his career despite another cancer scare.
Hugh Jackman has revealed that he'll be returning to Broadway to headline the Jez Butterworth play, The River. This will be the fourth time the X-Men star has appeared on the prestigious New York stage circuit and it will tie in nicely with his upcoming hosting of the Tony Awards.
Hugh Jackman Has Announced He'll Be Returning To Broadway In 'The River.'
"I'm going back to Broadway. I'm doing a play called 'The River,' a Jez Butterworth play. So I'm really looking forward to treading the boards here on Broadway," Jackman confirmed to The Associated Press on Thursday.
Directed by Ian Rickson, The River will begin previews this fall at the Circle in the Square theatre. Jackman will be co-starring alongside Cush Jumbo and Laura Donnelly. Jackman was last seen on Broadway in the 2011 one man show Broadhurst theatre sell-out, Back on Broadway, playing himself.
The Actor Has Recently Had Surgery For Cancer On His Nose.
It's no secret that the Prisoners star is a true and talented thespian: the world was given a taster of his impressive singing skills in the 2012 adaptation of Les Misérables. The 45 year-old star will be turning his theatrical knowledge to celebrating the year's best shows at June's Tony Awards.
"It's like the Olympics for an athlete or the Super Bowl for a football player. You want to do your best, and, of course, you only get one shot at it. But they're the things you look back at the end of the day and say, 'I'm glad I had a go at that,"' Jackson said of the annual awards ceremony that was hosted last year by How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris.
It has also emerged today that Jackman has had a second cancer scare after first undergoing surgery late last year for skin cancer. Revealing a bandaged nose on Instagram, Hugh wrote ''Another Basel Cell Carsinoma. All out now. Thanks Dr. Albom and Dr. Arian. PLEASE! PLEASE! WEAR SUNSCREEN! [....] Huge thanks to Dr. Arian and Dr. Born for operating on my nose until 10:20pm! #SUNSCREEN (sic)''
The River will begin previews the 31st October at the Circle in the Square theatre before opening 16th November. Hugh Jackman will host the Tony Awards on the 8th June.
