Ice Cube

Biography

Ice Cube (born O'Shea Jackson 15.06.1969) Ice Cube is an American rapper, actor and record producer and movie director. He is best known for being considered a founding member of gangsta rap.

Net Worth: According to Celebrity Net Worth in 2013, Ice Cube has a net worth of 140 million USD.

Childhood: Ice Cube was born in South Central Los Angeles, California, to Doris and Hosea Jackson. He studied at William Howard Taft Charter High School in Los Angeles. Inspired by hip hop music from an early age, Ice Cube began writing his own raps during classes at school. When he was 12, his half-sister was killed by her boyfriend in a murder/suicide. Ice Cube met a 19-year-old Dr. Dre in 1984. In 1987, Ice Cube attended Phoenix Institute of Technology where he studied architectural drafting.

Career: In 1987, Ice Cube and Dr. Dre teamed up to make the rap group Cru' in Action! or C.I.A. and released the single 'My Posse'. Ice Cube then wrote the song 'Boyz-n-the-Hood' for rapper Eazy-E, who later joined Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, along with MC Ren and DJ Yella to form the group N.W.A. The group then released their debut studio album, 'Straight Outta Compton', on 8th August, 1988. The album was cited as the birth of the 'gangster rap' genre. Ice Cube fell out with the group's manager and left, although as he had written most of the music for both N.W.A. and Eazy-E's debut solo album, he took legal action against the manager and record label. In 1989, Ice Cube began recording his critically acclaimed debut solo album, 'AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted'. The album was released in May, 1990, as was his 'Kill at Will' EP, which became the first ever hip hop EP to go platinum. The following year, Ice Cube released his second solo album, 'Death Certificate', which was seen by many as a controversial album for it's racist and anti-Semitic messages. In 1992, Ice Cube released his most successful album, 'The Predator', which took cues from the second film in the 'Predator' franchise and the Los Angeles riots from the same year; the album became double platinum. 1994 saw Ice Cube reunite with Dr. Dre for the duet song 'Natural Born Killaz'. In 1996, Ice Cube worked with WC and Mack 10 on the group Westside Connection, and they released the album 'Bow Down' in the same year; 'Bow Down' had become a certified platinum record by 1997. Ice Cube worked on a number of solo projects, including 1998's 'War & Peace Vol. 1 (The War Disc)', 2000's 'War & Peace Vol. 2 (The Peace Disc)', 2006's 'Laugh Now, Cry Later', 2008's 'Raw Footage', 2010's 'I Am the West' and 2015's 'Everythang's Corrupt'.

Personal Life: On 26th April, 1992, Ice Cube married Kimberly Woodruff. The couple had four children: O'Shea, Jr., Darryl, Kareema, and Sharif. : O'Shea, Jr. and Darryl became the rappers OMG and Doughboy, and both featured on Ice Cube's 2010 album, 'I Am the West'.

Ice Cube's Mom Made Him Take His Ex To Prom

Ice Cube

Ice Cube might be known as a badass gangsta rapper, but when he was a teenager he most certainly wasn't driving an SUV with blacked out windows - and he did everything his mother told him to even if it meant hanging out with his ex-girlfriend during one og the biggest rites of passage a high schooler goes through.

Ice Cube with his Hollywood StarIce Cube with his Hollywood Star

If you can believe it, the N.W.A. star's first ever car was a 1969 Volkswagen bug. It sounds laughable, but he loved that vehicle, even if the gas gauge never worked - which of course meant that he would often unexpectedly run out of fuel. Unfortunately, sometimes it was at the most inconvenient moments.

LeBron James Humbled By Namechecks

Lebron James Jay Z Ice Cube

Lebron James finds it ''humbling'' to be referenced in so many songs.

The basketball legend insists artists never ask his permission to use his name in their tracks, but he is always flattered whenever he suddenly hears a shout-out on the radio.

Appearing on 'Carpool Karaoke', host James Corden asked: ''You get referenced in a lot of hip-hop songs, rap songs -- do they have to call you up, or do you just hear it on the radio?''

XXx: Return Of Xander Cage Review

OK

It's been 15 years since Vin Diesel walked away from his XXX role, killing off the character before the 2005 sequel. Both films were pretty terrible, mindless action connected by the thinnest imaginable plots. And this franchise relaunch is just as random, with a nonsensical thriller storyline that exists merely to string together a sequence of explosive stunt trickery. Thankfully, this time the cast and crew make it clear that they know how preposterous this is.

No, Xander (Diesel) isn't dead. He's whizzing around the jungles of the Dominican Republic, wooing sweaty, scantily clad babes and keeping the locals cheering at his exploits. Then CIA black ops director Marke (Toni Collette) appears to draft him back into the XXX programme, because she needs to recapture a gadget terrorists are using to drop satellites from orbit onto carefully chosen targets. OK, sure. X assembles a team of his old pals (actually newcomers, played by Kris Wu, Ruby Rose and Rory McCann), plus a hot computer geek (Nina Dobrev), and chases down the team of equally extreme baddies (Donnie Yen, Deepika Padukone, Tony Jaa and Michael Bisping). And as they head to London, the Philippines and Detroit, everyone realises that there's something else going on here.

There probably isn't a law of physics that isn't broken in this movie. These characters fly, are shot, fall from great heights and are blown to smithereens, but emerge unscathed, apart from their excessive tattoos (Xander has somehow redesigned his logo neck art for the reboot). Refreshingly, everyone keeps their tongues firmly planted in their cheeks, winking at the camera at each ridiculous moment. Such as the chase in which motorcycles magically transform into water-bikes. Or when Xander does a spot of Alpine skiing through a rainforest. Or the frankly jaw-dropping weightless fight scene in a power-diving airplane.

Ice Cube

Former N.W.A. legend Ice Cube is to play the role of Fagin in a new musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ 'Oliver Twist'.

The rapper is also going to co-produce the movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter, with the Tony award-winning Thomas Kail, who worked on the hit musical ‘Hamilton’ with Lin-Manuel Miranda, set to make his debut as a film director.

'Oliver Twist' is the classic story of an orphan boy from a workhouse who falls in with a band of pickpockets and petty thieves in Victorian London, led by the sinister rogue Fagin.

Ride Along 2 Review

Bad

Ice Cube and Kevin Hart reteam for a sequel no one really asked for, following up their lacklustre 2014 action-comedy with a film that's even lazier. While the first one at least had a sense of pacing, with humour that sometimes tipped from idiotic to mildly funny, this movie wastes its cast and premise on a series of witless action sequences, dopey slapstick and contrived relational touches. It's only watchable because Hart is able to make the most undemanding audience members chuckle now and then.

After proving that his video-gaming skills were useful in police work, Ben (Hart) has completed police academy and is working as a rookie, shadowing tough-guy detective James (Cube), whose sister Angela (Tika Sumpter) is marrying Ben in just a week. But before that happens, James and Ben head to Miami to follow a lead in a drug case they're working on. Alongside local tough-girl detective Maya (Olivia Munn), they track down a hacker (Ken Jeong) who has proof that local philanthropist Antonio (Benjamin Bratt) is actually a notorious global black market dealer. To prove that, they have to dive into a series of car and boat chases, plus heists and shootouts that never seem to go the way anyone expects.

The underlying story is exactly the same as the first film: James is trying to prove that Ben is an idiot, while he is actually softening James' rough edges. The difference here is that they know each other a bit better, so are more effective at getting under each others' skin. This means that they're even less likeable than before, and even Hart's non-stop comical chatter is more annoying than it is amusing. There are moments when Hart adds a tiny detail that elicits a smile from viewers, and some of his physical antics are so ridiculous that it's difficult not to giggle, but most of that is simply because it's unbelievable that the filmmakers thought any of this was genuinely funny.
