Idris Elba is to replace Jamie Foxx in Hamony Korine's movie The Trap and will star in one of the most glittering casts of the year opposite Benicio Del Toro, Robert Pattinson, James Franco and Al Pacino. Focus Features is currently in negotiations to acquire the U.S rights to the film.

Set against the backdrop of the Miami music scene, The Trap stars Del Toro as an ex-con out for revenge against a rapper and former friend - played by Elba - who let him take the fall for a robbery they omitted together 14 years earlier. Franco will play Elba's drug-addled manager while Pacino plays Del Toro's parole officer. Pattinson will play a Miami surfer who helps Del Toro extract his revenge.

The project has huge pedigree and potential and will be produced by Oscar-winning John Lesher (Birdman) under his Le Grisbi banner.

Korine and Franco previously collaborated on Spring Breakers, while garnered both critical acclaim and controversy.

Elba is involved in a number of potential Oscar contenders for the coming year and stars in Cary Fukunaga's hugely anticipated African civil war drama Beasts of No Nation, as well as Jim O'Hanlon's London-centric drama A Hundred Streets.

Of course, Elba is still considered the favourite to take over from Daniel Craig as the next James Bond. Craig is believed to have two more films in his contract, including the forthcoming Spectre, directed by Sam Mendes and co-starring Oscar winner Christoph Waltz.
