Idris Elba will be starring in a new political drama for Sky Atlantic set in 1970s London. Titled ‘Guerrilla’, it will be Elba’s first small-screen drama since BBC1’s ‘Luther’. The six-part series is set to debut on Sky Atlantic next year.

‘Guerilla’ follows a politically active couple after they liberate a political prisoner and form a radical underground cell. Their target becomes the “black power desk”, a true-life, secretive counter-intelligence unit within Special Branch which was dedicated to crushing all forms of black activism.

The six-parter will be directed by John Ridley and co-produced by Elba’s production company, Green Door Pictures. “It’s been a long time desire of mine to collaborate with Mr. Ridley and his work here is nothing short of a masterclass in character building and storytelling,” Elba said. “TV is in for a treat.”

Sky Atlantic also announced a number of other new dramas, including epic medieval adventure, ‘The Last Dragonslayer', based on the first of Jasper Fforde’s series of novels. ‘The Last Dragonslayer' will star ‘Game of Thrones’’ John Bradley opposite Ellise Chappell.

‘Mad Men’s’ Christina Hendricks will star in a 10-part contemporary western, alongside Tim Roth and written by Rowan Joffe. The as-yet-untitled series will be set in the Rocky mountains and is described as an “epic revenge thriller”.

Also coming is ‘Riviera’, a 10-part thriller set in the south of France created by Oscar-winner Neil Jordan and based on an idea by former U2 manager, Paul McGuinness. ‘Riviera’ sees Julia Stiles play a widow whose billionaire husband is killed in a yacht explosion, only to find that his fortune was built on crime, double-dealing and murder and leaving her to step into his shoes.

On Sky One, Dawn French will head-up four-part drama ‘Delicious’ which will be set in Cornwall and is described as a “compelling story of love, heartbreak, food and female friendship”. There will also be eight-part series ‘Jamestown’, focusing on early days of the first British settlers in America and starring Max Beesley, Jason Flemyng and Dean Lennox Kelly.
