Veteran British rocker Jack Bruce has died at the age of 71.

The Cream bassist passed away at his home in Suffolk, England on Saturday (25Oct14) after a battle with liver disease.

In a statement, his family says, "It is with great sadness that we, Jack's family, announce the passing of our beloved Jack: husband, father, granddad, and all round legend. The world of music will be a poorer place without him but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts."

His publicist Claire Singers adds, "He died today at his home in Suffolk surrounded by his family."

Bruce played bass and sang with legendary 1960s rock trio Cream, alongside guitarist Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker, and he also performed with a slew of British blues luminaries during his career, including the Graham Bond Organisation, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and Alexis Korner's Blues Inc.
