Jack White’s new album “Lazaretto” has sold 40,000 copies, achieving the biggest first-week sales for a vinyl album, at least since SoundScan started tracking sales 24-years ago.

The LP cruised in to debut at No. 1 on Billboard's Vinyl Albums chart, accounting for 28.9% of the album's first-week sales. 30% of the album's impressive debut figures was CD, with 41,000 sold, while the shift towards online content saw online downloads comprise 41.1% of the overall sales pie.

White’s commercial success with this album - especially on 12” - proves that audiences are still willing to fork out for physical copies. But that doesn’t mean artists aren’t charged with repeatedly innovating to ensure their tangible output is fresh and actually worth buying.

Some of the unique qualities White’s “Lazaretto” contains on vinyl include the ability to play the LP at three different speeds, the fully playable tracks hidden under the center label and how side A plays from the inside to the outside of the disc.

So far, White’s second solo album has faired well with the critics. Metacritic have is pinned at a score of 79 from 27 reviews, with positive write-ups from The Telegraph, Uncut and Clash Music. "This is my proudest moment with Third Man Records, this object," White said of the LP to Conan O'Brien during an appearance on "Conan" on June 11.
