Jack White, one of the most tireless and talented live performers of his generation, has decided to take a break from the stage for "a long period of period."

According to a statement: "After many years of performing in a multitude of configurations, Jack White is announcing that he will be taking a break from performing live for a long period of time."

Should you fancy seeing White before his extended hiatus, the former White Stripes man will be an appearance at the second leg of the Coachella festival on April 18 as well as a series of acoustic dates in the US states. The gigs are not set to be announced until 8am on the day of each show and tickets will be sold on the door at each venue, first come, first served, priced at $3.

At last weekend's Coachella, White tore through a set included songs by the White Stripes and Raconteurs, as well as performing a cover of Otis Redding's I've Been Loving You Too Long. At one point in the set, he ordered the crowd to "put your f*cking phones down for five seconds"

White was recently announced as one of the co-owners of the high-res streaming service Tidal, with Jay-Z, Rihanna, Madonna and others.
