Jada Pinkett Smith has signed on for a co-starring role on Fox's Batman origins television show Gotham. The wife of Will Smith will play Fish Mooney, a sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner who has extra-sensory abilities to read people like an opening book.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Mooney is the boss of Oswald Cobblepot - aka The Penguin - who will be played by The Waking Dead's Robin Lord Taylor.

Gotham marks a return to the small screen for Smith, who most recently had a small role in TNT's medical drama Hawthorne. Her previous credits include A Different World and the major movies Ali, Madagascar and Scream 2.

Gotham, which is being pretty by The Mentalist showrunner Bruno Heller, stars Ben McKenzie as Police Commisioner Gordon, Donal Logue as his partner and mentor Harvey Bullock, Zabryna Guevara as their boss at the Gotham City Police Department, Sean Pertwee as Bruce Wayne's loyal servant Alfred and Erin Richards as Gordon's love interest Erin Richards. The casting of the young Bruce Wayne has not yet been announced.

The Joker, Riddler and Catwoman are also expected to be part of Gotham, with the plan apparently being for the series to end with Bruce Wayne putting on the cape and becoming Batman for the first time. It's a similar thing to what Smallville did with Clark Kent/Superman.
