Review of Modern Day Romance Single by Jagga

Modern Day Romance is the debut single release from East Londoner Jagga (First name Mick? I'm stupid and immature I know). Not to be confused with a planet from Star Wars, a South African Fashion Designer or an Indian outlaw, Jagga is in fact a Singer Songwriter, Producer and Performer whose previous collaborations have included work with Magnetic Man.

Modern Day Romance is floor filler waiting to happen. Ludicrously catchy chorus, fuzzy bass beats and just enough bleeps and tweets skip along to the somewhat cynical take on contemporary relationships. The tune builds to a wickedly infectious beat before breaking down to reassemble and redevelop the central themes. The arrangement is a masterclass in judgement. Notable as much for what has been left out as for what has been included, Modern Day Romance delivers a great tune without the need to over produce. The energy, vibrancy and feel good factor have not been quashed through endless studio reworking.

'They all tell her that they love her,
but she don't know what that means.

Jagga Modern Day Romance Single

They joke and buy her flowers,
and in the morning she leaves.'

This is 'Modern Day Romance' is a great debut from Jagga. Dance music not trying to be contrived or push an agenda with a decidedly commercial groove. Pedigree Pop that deserves success.

Andrew Lockwood.
