Jake Gyllenhaal has achieved plenty on the silver screen, from nominations at the Academy Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Awards to roles in the likes of 'Donnie Darko' and 'Brokeback Mountain,' he's a man who really could afford to rest on his laurels should he so wish. However, Gyllenhaal has set himself a new challenge and as such has been announced to appear in his stage debut, playing the lead in Nick Payne's play 'If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet,' which will be produced by Roundabout Theatre Company.
The play was a critical hit upon being released in London theatres back in 2009, the comic drama surrounding an off-kilter family aware of their own problems but not the solution to fix them. The Hollywood Reporter writes that the story goes that it's Anna who is at the centre of the narration, an overweight teenager who finds herself bullied at school. Her mother transfers to the school that she teaches at, only making the situation worse. It's Gyllenhaal's character who plays the catalyst for change in her life, an estranged Uncle who unexpectedly turns up out of the blue.
The play will be directed by Michael Longhurst and previews will begin on Broadway on August 24th with an official opening of September 20th.
