Amber Canavan entered the Sullivan County Jail on Tuesday to begin a 30-day term for stealing ducks from the largest foie gras factory farm in the U.S. in 2011 in protest at the controversial pate.

Cromwell, a longtime animal rights activist, stood on the steps of the courthouse with a group of protesters, including a man dressed in a large duck costume, to stage a demonstration organised by bosses at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

The group held up posters featuring ducks and the message, "Thank you for helping me Amber!"

The actor says, "It's because of people like Amber and actions like this that change happens... This is going to change. It can't go on."
