James Franco - yeah, the guy who keeps doing weird things on Instagram and Whatsapp - says the planned Spring Breakers sequel will be a "terrible" film and that neither him nor director Harmony Korine will be involved. Franco - who campaigned for himself to get an Oscar nomination for the first movie - said anyone working on the movie is "jumping on board a poison ship."

James FrancoJames Franco hates the idea of Spring Breakers 2

Franco posted his official statement about Spring Breakers: The Second Coming on Instagram.

"This is not being done with Harmony Korine or my consent. The original was wholly Harmony's creation and these producers are capitalizing on that innovative film to make money on a weak sequel.

"I want everyone to know that whoever is involved in the sequel is jumping on board a poison ship," continued the actor. "It will be a terrible film, with a horrible reason d'être: to make money off someone else's creativity."

Franco also compared Korine's movie - which co-starred Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens - with Taxi Driver.

"Can you imagine someone making the sequel to Taxi Driver without Scorcese [sic] and DeNiro's consents? Insanity! I'm speaking up for Harmony and his original vision and for any creative person who cares about preserving artistic integrity."

The sequel to Spring Breakers will reportedly find another group of 'breakers' battling with an "extreme militant Christian sect that attempts to convert them." Vincent Maraval of Paris-based production company Wild Bunch said "It's not a direct sequel, although there are allusions to some characters in the original."

The first movie got mixed reviews from critics.

"You start the film wondering what the moral take on all this uninventive debauchery is going to be - is it a satire? - but then realise with dismay there is no take on offer at all," said Dave Sexton of This Is London.
