The sequels to Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, will hit theaters on February 10, 2017 and February 9, 2018, respectively. The first movie starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson took over $550 million at the global box-office.

Clearly the dates have been chosen for their close proximity to Valentine's Day. The first movie was release on February 13, 2015.

The sequels are likely to be different from the original in that director Sam Taylor-Johnson has left the franchise over her on-set disputes with author E.L James. A new director is yet to be hired, though James has already hired her husband Niall Leonard to write the screenplay.

"Niall is an outstanding writer in his own right, with multiple established credits, and we are lucky to have him join Team Fifty," said producer Michael De Luca in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. Leonard's previous credits include working on TV shows such as Wild at Heart, Monarch of the Glen and Wire in the Blood.

Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan are currently in negotiations to reprise their role as Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey, seeking more money after the huge financial success of the first film.

Production on Fifty Shades Darker will begin in the first quarter of 2016.

"Basically, they made a lousy, mid-2000s-era Katherine Heigl romance with a handful of explicit sex scenes spliced throughout the familiar clichés," said Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times.
