Jamie Dornan has been cast in 'The Ninth Life of Louis Drax'.

The '50 Shades of Grey' actor will star as a doctor in the psychological thriller, which is based on Liz Jensen's best-selling novel of the same name.

The film will follow a young boy, Louis Drax, who suffers a serious accident and is treated by Jamie Dornan's character. While treating the boy, he stumbles upon an unexplained mystery which unravels throughout the film.

Anthony Minghella began adapting the novel shortly before his death in 2008, which led his son Max to complete the script as his screenwriting debut.

The project is being directed by Alexandre Aja, who has previously worked on 'The Hills Have Eyes' and 'High Tension'.

Aja said: ''Max's script takes us on a very emotional journey through the deep recesses of the mind and on a suspenseful Hitchcockian ride. I was drawn to the poignant family drama and the supernatural elements, and am excited to bring this rich and complex story to life.''

Jamie has previously appeared in the 2006 film 'Marie Antoinette' and 2009's 'Shadows in the Sun'. The 32-year-old - who has previously dated Keira Knightley - is currently filming an untitled American comedy film alongside Bradley Cooper, Emma Thompson and Uma Thurman.

The heartthrob's portrayal of Christian Grey in the highly-anticipated adaptation of the best-selling novel '50 Shades of Grey' will premiere in February 2015.
