Jared Leto says he will never lose weight for a role again.

The 42-year-old actor admits that extreme dieting began to ''take its toll'' on his body after he shed the pounds for his latest role in 'Dallas Buyers Club' as a transvestite who is addicted to drugs and dying of AIDS.

Jared told Attitude magazine: ''It does take its toll and it's not something I will ever do again. It's a really hard thing to do to your body. When you do it over a short period of time it's incredibly brutal.''

Leto's dramatic transformation has seen him nominated at this year's Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor, and he claims he doesn't regret losing the weight as it was integral to the role.

He added: ''This time, I was playing someone who was not only addicted to drugs but also dying. When you lose weight it's not only about how you look, it's how it affects you as a person, and your performance , and it changes so much about how you are. The fragility that all provides was essential to the part.''
