When Jason Momoa was first revealed as the actor to be taking on the DC Extended Universe's version of Aquaman, many long-time fans of the superhero raised their brow. He didn't look the part of the regular Arthur Curry, but perhaps he was the gruff addition to the versions of the DC character that was needed for casual comic book movie fans to really take him seriously. Plus, he had already proven how great of an actor he was in such projects as 'Game of Thrones'.

Whilst we all got our first glimpse of Momoa in action in 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice', the moment was a fleeting one and so, we're all waiting to see exactly what he brings to 'Justice League' this month to see if the casting was a perfect one, or a terrible shot in the dark. We're hoping for the former.

Looking ahead, he'll also be the subject of his own solo DCEU venture, which actor Momoa has been recently teasing as a "complete" origins story for Curry, before the character takes the Atlantis throne.

Speaking with EW, he teased of the movie: "You just get the time to understand who he is. That’s the beauty of the origin. You get to see where he grew up, how he was treated. There’s gonna be huge battle scenes underwater that feel like you’re in space!"

Momoa also opened up about how he could personally relate with the version of the hero director Zack Snyder has created: "When Zack was creating the character, he really wanted this Outlaw Josey Wales type, someone who’s the outsider. He wasn’t really accepted on land, and not really accepted in Atlantis. That was kind of an interesting thing for me with this character. I could relate to it, coming from Iowa and being Hawaiian."

The ocean isn't a place that is often explored on the big screen, because of just how hard it is to bring to movie theatres. Making everything look realistic underwater isn't an easy job, and bringing a whole host of characters to life there is even more difficult, but it's a challenge director James Wan is willing to take on. We can't wait to see how it all turns out.
