In between blockbusters, the summer box office looks disappointing.
It’s time for the most highly anticipated part of the weekend – for studios, anyway – the box office roundup! Excited yet? Well, neither were movie-goers this week. Apocalyptic sci-fi prequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes won this week’s race with $36 million on its second weekend, according to Box Office Mojo. That counts as a 50% drop from its debut, but the Fox sequel had no trouble staying on top over horror sequel The Purge: Anarchy and the Cameron Diaz comedy Sex Tape, which is currently bombing in both reviews and earnings.

Stars Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel led the red carpet at the premiere of their new movie, Sex Tape in Los Angeles. In the comedy, Diaz and Segel play a married couple, who decide to spice up their relationship by making their own x-rated ‘home movie’. However their plan goes awry when the film leaks, leaving the couple struggling to retrieve it from the Cloud network before they suffer a major embarrassment. But luckily for the film’s stars there were no embarrassing moments on the film's red carpet as the sun shone and they showcased their fabulous summer fashions.

First up was star Cameron Diaz, who played up on the film’s risqué tone, by sporting a semi-sheer jumpsuit. Featuring long sleeves and a polka dot pattern, the black silk jumpsuit was the perfect look for a summer night out and showcased Cameron’s incredible figure. The actress topped off the look by keeping her hair loose and wearing eye catching red lipstick.

The critics are unanimous - "Sex Tape" is as unsexy as it gets.
Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel’s new R-rated comedy Sex Tape may be all about doing it, but it’s not doing anything for the critics. According to its stars, the main selling point of this latest answer to The 40-Year-Old Virgin is that it’s relatable.
Much like its protagonist in some scenes, Sex Tape's humor flops around a bit, before sputtering out completely.
When asked about the raunchier moments in a recent CinemaBlend interview, Segel explained: “I’m more excited about honesty. And I think that painful honesty makes audience members feel uncomfortable in a way that’s really fun.”

David Foster Wallace's family are not happy about a new Hollywood movie, starring Jason Segel.
The family of the acclaimed late novelist David Foster Wallace have objected to a new movie about the writer, based on a road trip he took with a Rolling Stone reporter in 1996. The family say that "David would never have agreed that those saved transcripts could later be repurposed as the basis of a movie."

An entire series told in flashbacks, HIMYM only revealed the identity of "the mother" at the end of series eight, played by Cristin Milioti. Certain signals from her interaction with Ted (Josh Radnor) lead fans to believe that the mother actually is dead in 2030, and that's why the dad is reminiscing with his kids. This rumour was quickly played down by the cast but shows a keenness amongst fans for a "legen-dary" twist to top of their favourite show.

[Spoilers] The recent troubling 'HIMYM' rumours have made fans anxious for a happy finale.
In two episode's time we'll have the last ever episode of How I Met Your Mother. It has been a long and undulating road for the hit CBS sitcom but the upcoming 31st March will hopefully give the series' devoted fans the finale they deserve.
The HIMYM team's final outing will cap nine seasons, which is a pretty impressive feat: "I feel grateful that we all managed to get to the finish line. It's not every show that gets to run nine years and end on its own terms," says co-creator Carter Bays, who, has helped guide the show to its long-planned ending.

With the first of nine final How I Met Your Mother episodes having aired last night, the countdown to the end has begun. For the HIMYM team, however, the countdown has been running for a few years – ever since they filmed the last scene of the last episode sometime during season two, News.com.au reports.
The actors have been at this for nine years.
The premise of the entire series is that sometime in the future, Josh Radnor’s character, Ted, is telling his kids the longwinded story of how he met their mother. In the early years of the show, the kids, played by David Henrie and Lyndsy Fonseca, were often seen sitting on a couch, listening to the story and looking utterly bored.

The sitcom’s creators apologise after “racist” storyline set in China.
An apology has been sent out by the team behind How I Met Your Mother, sorry for the offence that last night's episode 'Slapsgiving 3: Slappointment in Slapmarra' caused. The episode, which was partly set in China, was accused of being racist by some fans who used the Twitter hashtag "#HowIMetYourRacism" to criticise a scene in which the cast were shown with make-up, costumes and accents that some deemed offensive.

The final season of How I Met Your Mother is going on full speed ahead (tear) and last week’s episode saw the chaos surrounding Barney and Robin’s wedding continue to unfold. Do we even need to explain that this recap will contain ALL OF THE SPOILERS? No? Ok. The couple try to find a place where they can be alone before the wedding and before “those old b***ards latch onto us like leeches.” As you can guess, by “those b***ards” they mean their relatives.
The wedding stress is finally catching up with Barney and Robin.
Meanwhile, Marshall continues his heroic quest to Farhampton. He’s making headway, but unfortunately, we’re not quite at the end of the season, so that probably means he’ll have to go through a few more challenges before making it. This week it was Wisconsin – for you non-football fans, that’s the home of the Green Bay Packers – sworn rivals of Marshall’s dearest Vikings. Without spoiling too much, things get intense.

However, things take a turn for the worst when they experience a major earthquake; the ground opens up to the hottest depths of the Earth's core swallowing up Rihanna and Jason Segal as mysterious beasts start swarming around outside. The Muppets star has turned his hand to writing books for kids
Jason Segel, comedy screen star and Forgetting Sarah Marshall co-writer is turning his hand to writing children’s books, according to CBS News. Segel will be co-writing the books with Kirsten Miller, the author of the best-selling series The Eternal Ones. Entitled Nightmares! the tale is an adventure story about kids who are trying to save their town from fear, after it becomes over-run by nightmare creatures that have taken over the everyday world.
Segel commented in a press release: “Ultimately, it's a story about learning that we can accomplish anything, as long as we are brave enough to try. These are the types of stories that always inspired me." He originally wrote the story as a movie project but decided to reverse-adapt it into a book series for children. A spokesperson for Random House, who will be publishing the books, commented “Jason Segel has the perfect voice to write for children. Nightmares! is inventive, genuine, and relatable to middle-grade readers. We're thrilled to see Jason's creative vision translated to the page, and can't wait to introduce him to the publishing world as a tremendous new talent."
The first book in the Nightmares! series is due to be published in 2014. Meanwhile, Segel is awaiting the release of This Is The End, a comedy in which he features alongside Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd and James Franco.

Relationship break-up news: Jason Segel and Michelle Williams have reportedly ended their relationship
The actors Michelle Williams and Jason Segel have called time on their long-distance love affair. Williams, 32 and Segel, 33 quietly ended their relationship last month, Us Magazine revealed, after speaking to sources close to the celebrity couple. Despite the couple seeming happy together, it appears that the pressures of long distance travel, in order to see each other had put too much of a strain on their relationship.
Michelle and Jason were recently spotted holidaying in Cancun, with Busy Phillips (one of Michelle’s best mates) and they seemed happy enough but it seems that the distance has taken it’s toll on Michelle, who also has her 7 year-old daughter Matilda to consider (the kid she had with the late Heath Ledger). Michelle and Matilda live in New York City, whilst Jason has been based in Los Angeles, where his CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother is filmed. When the couple got together in March last year, they managed to keep their coupling under wraps for some time and it seems that they may have achieved the same with their split, until now.
These two aren’t the only Hollywood acting couple to have succumbed to the nightmare of long distance relationships though. Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen also quit their long-distance relationship recently, too.

Michelle Williams and Jason Segel have ended their relationship after a year citing distance as a key component of their split, according to US Weekly. The pair had been dating since January 2012, having reportedly been introduced by a mutual friend, Busy Phillips who was in both Freaks and Geaks (with Segel) and Dawson's Creek (with Williams), but it seems with Jason working in LA and Michelle living with her daughter in NYC, the distance just got too difficult.
While we're very sad for Michelle Williams and Jason Segel that they've split, it also leaves the door open to them both in the future for anyone else. They may not be the obvious 'hot couple' of Hollywood, but now single they're each the most eligible bachelor and bachelorette available.
Segel is a talented comedian, actor, producer and writer, having penned both Forgetting Sarah Marshall and bringing the Muppets back to life in last year's movie, imaginatively named The Muppets. Michelle Williams is one of the best actresses that has come out of America over the past couple of decades though understated and undersold, she's been in modern classics and beloved movies such as Brokeback Mountain, Shutter Island and Blue Valentine. She also has a daughter with the late Heath Ledger. Ever the professional she has continued to do promotional work for her latest movie, Oz The Great and Powerful. Jason's next project wont be out until June, it's called This Is The End.

This overlong comedy is so episodic that watching it is exactly like sitting through five episodes of a sitcom back-to-back. It's funny and enjoyable, with characters we enjoy watching, but they continually spiral back to where they started, and in the end we feel like there's been a lot of fuss about nothing. Even so, the script offers plenty of hilarious observational humour, and the cast is thoroughly entertaining.
Reprising their roles from Knocked Up, Rudd and Mann play Debbie and Pete, who turn 40 within a week of each other. But Debbie isn't coping very well with it, and her emotions swing wildly from steamy lust to fiery rage while Pete just tries to hang on. Their daughters (played by Apatow and Mann's real daughters Maude and Iris) each have their own issues to stir into the mix. And then Pete's needy father (Brooks) turns up with problems of his own, forcing Debbie to think about her own distant father (Lithgow). Meanwhile, the economic crunch is causing problems for both of their businesses.
Yes, both of them own businesses. This is not the typical struggling 40-something couple, so it's not easy to sympathise with many of their issues. Fortunately, Apatow's dialog is packed with brazen honesty and an appreciation for rude gags that keep us laughing even in the absence of an actual storyline we can get involved in (although there's one major plot point along the way). Rudd and Mann were arguably the best thing in Knocked Up, so it's great to let them take the spotlight here, making the most of their sparky interaction. And aside from experts like Brooks and Lithgow, there is a continual stream of superb side roles, including Fox as Debbie's oversexed and possibly embezzling employee and McCarthy as a furious school parent (her big scene is expanded into a brilliantly improvised outtake riff in the closing credits).

How I Met Your Mother, or All The Women I Slept With Before I Met Your Mother, will return for a ninth season, it was announced last night.
There had been some doubts over whether or not the show would return for another season after Jason Segel, who plays Marshall on the show, was reportedly sat on the fence over whether to return or not. However, according to Deadline, Segel decided to stick with the show for at least one more year after a last-minute change of heart during last night's negotiations. Deadline quotes a source as saying that Segel "decided to bail and leave the cast hanging, but he just got turned around today at the last second. The show was literally dead."
Neil Patrick Harris, who plays Barney, was also reportedly undecided whether or not to return to the show, but decided to pledge his time to the HIMYM some weeks earlier, leaving everyone hanging on Segel's word. Now though, it looks as though Christmas may have come early for HIMYM fans as the show will definitely be returning next year. In fact, executive producers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas have even hinted that this season may very well be the last when speaking to E! last month. Bay said: "It's obvious this show is around one central question, so that meeting [of the mother] will be part of the endgame of the show. How much the show will go beyond that, we can't really say one way or the other."

Who are our favourite Hollywood couple right now? That's right, the adorable and unassuming talent power-house couple that is Jason Segal (How I Met Your Mother, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Muppets) and Michelle Williams (Dawson's Creek, Brokeback Mountain). The couple, who have now been dating for 7 months, have bought a loft together in Brooklyn, NY.
Williams and Segal have been living together for a few months, but were staving off moving into their own joint property. Williams was married to Heath Ledger, but were divorced 5 months before his tragic death. She and her daughter, Matilda, have lived in the home she and Ledge bought together ever since his death. However, with Segal entering Michelle and Matilda's lives, and providing an excellent father figure for young Matilda, it seems time for Michelle to properly move on.
Their new home is a converted loft, which has stunning views of the Manhattan skyline, according to WetPaint.com. The news of them moving in seems to confirm the idea that Segal feels he has met 'the one'. Last March he told Parade "I don't want to have a girlfriend for the sake of having a girlfriend. I have no desire to pick a random girl. I want the right girl. There are plenty of opportunities, but I would rather have the right one." He now has the right one.

The Oscars is the biggest annual event in western film culture, perhaps matched only by the Cannes Film Festival. Winning an Oscar is a director's, actor's or writer's proudest moment and one that will ensure career longevity and continued success. So, to host the Oscars is a pretty big deal- is Seth Macfarlane, a squat comedy writer whose shows have been censored and even banned in the past the right man for the role? And, if he's not, who may have been a better choice?
Seth MacFarlane is the creative mind behind the animated comedy tour-de-force Family Guy, as well as American Dad and The Cleveland show. He branched his career out further this year writing, directing and starring in the movie “Ted”.
However, MacFarlane had a slight mishap when hosting the Emmys this year, in which he couldn't find the mic. If he has a similar slip-up this year, the award directors may be lamenting not opting for someone else. But who else could step up to the mark? Judging on entertainment value and quality The Muppets would have been an excellent choice, or even the man responsible for bringing them vehemently back to life earlier this year, Jason Segel. Neil Patrick Harris is another all-rounder who would be great for the job, or even Mila Kunis.

After a humiliating breakup, Dylan (Timberlake) meets with high-achieving headhunter Jamie (Kunis) about a new job. Friendship blossoms, and since Jamie is emotionally damaged after a recent split and Dylan is emotionally unavailable, they decide to sleep together without any deeper attachment.
Meanwhile, they get increasingly involved in each others' lives, most notably as Dylan and his sister (Elfman) cope with their senile father (Jenkins). Of course, the main question is whether Dylan and Jamie can remain friends even if they have sex.

And that's because the main protagonists are not slackers at all -- in fact, they're a trio of heady, hard-working college cheaters. Beginning with an elaborate scam that actually gives the movie some potential, we are introduced to our leads (Devon Sawa, Jason Segel, and Michael C. Maronna) as they simultaneously shoot video of the women's cross-country team, steal a physics exam, and fake getting hit by a truck. But screenwriter David H. Steinberg (story writer on American Pie 2) tries building an entire feature based on one decent scenario. And he, as well as the rest of us, are in some deep trouble for the remainder of the 87 minutes.
