Rapper Jay Z And His Wife Beyonce Have Reportedly Donated Funds To Assist Activists In Baltimore, Maryland And Ferguson, Missouri Protesting The Deaths Of Unarmed African-american Men Killed By Police Officers In The Cities.
Writer Dream Hampton claims she reached out to the Drunk in Love hitmakers and asked them to help protesters who were arrested make bail.
In an email to the New York Daily News, she writes, "I can say I've personally helped facilitate donations they've given to protesters directly and that they never ask for anything in return, especially publicity."
On Sunday (17May15), Hampton revealed the donations in a series of messages on Twitter.com, writing, "I'm going to tweet this and I don't care if Jay gets mad."
She continues, "When we needed bail for Baltimore protesters, I asked, hit Jay up, as I had in Ferguson, (Missouri). (He) wired tens of thousands(of dollars) in minutes... and more stuff, too much to list actually, that they always insist folk keep quiet..."
Hampton has since erased the messages, but stands by them.
She says, "It's true. I erased (them) because I didn't want (them) on Twitter."
Beyonce also reportedly met with the family of Michael Brown, who was shot and killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri investigating a robbery.
Brown's death sparked a chain reaction of violent protests across America.
