Jay Z followed his wife Beyonce's lead during a concert in Toronto, Canada on Wednesday (17Jul13) by dedicating a song to slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin.

The rap superstar kicked off the North American leg of his Legends of the Summer tour with Justin Timberlake at the city's Rogers Centre, with the pals taking turns in the spotlight, running through hit after hit and teaming up for their new collaboration, Holy Grail.

However, the concert took a sombre turn for a brief moment as Jay Z paid tribute to Martin, four days after his killer, neighbourhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman, was acquitted of the 17 year old's 2012 murder.

He performed Forever Young in the teenager's memory as Timberlake urged the audience to "sing this for Trayvon".

Beyonce was one of the first artists to remember Martin onstage last Saturday (13Jul13), shortly after Zimmerman's controversial not guilty verdict was announced. Rocker Bruce Springsteen and Icelandic singer Bjork have also since dedicated songs to the tragic youngster at live shows.

The acquittal verdict has become a hot issue across America with supporters of Martin and his parents taking to the streets in many major cities to protest the jury's decision to let Zimmerman walk free. Some of these protests have turned violent.
