Jean-Claude Van Damme's wife has filed for divorce.

The 'Expendables 2' star and Gladys Portugues Van Varenberg - who have grown-up children Kristopher and Bianca together - have been separated since March 7 and the actress-and-former bodybuilder has cited irreconcilable differences in documents submitted to court to end their 15-year marriage.

Gladys is seeking spousal support and plans to drop her husband's surname.

The 54-year-old actor has not commented on the separation.

The former couple were previously married before, from 1987 until 1992, and Jean-Claude went on to wed three other women before reconciling with his first wife.

The action star has previously admitted he is ''not perfect'' and admitted suffering from bipolar disorder can make it difficult for people to be around him.

He has said: ''Sometimes you're gonna like me, and sometimes you're gonna hate me. But what can I do?

''I'm not perfect...I'm an extreme bipolar, and I'm taking medication for this...When I was young, I was suffering those swing moods. In the morning, the sky was blue [when I was] going to school, and to me, the sky was black. I was so sad.''
