It was reported back in April (15) that Geldof and Marine had wed in the resort of Rayol-Canadel-sur-Mer, and the musician even appeared to confirm the news at the time, telling reporters in May (15), "I'm really happy. It was a good day. It was great fun."

It has now been confirmed that the ceremony in the spring (15) was just a formality in which the couple signed paperwork in preparation for the big day. They then held their wedding at a beachfront house near Nice in front of friends and family on Saturday, according to British newspaper the Sunday Mirror.

The couple became engaged after the Band Aid founder lost his 25-year-old daughter Peaches, who died of a heroin overdose, in April 2014.

His two other daughters - Fifi and Pixie - were among the guests at the wedding, along with Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, Hollywood actress Demi Moore and Virgin mogul Richard Branson.

Director Richard Curtis, actor Richard E Grant and model Jerry Hall also attended.

Geldof married first wife, Paula Yates, in 1986 after 10 years together, but they divorced in 1996. The TV presenter later died of a heroin overdose in 2000 aged 41.

A spokesman for the couple has declined to comment on the report.
