What to expect

The young adult genre has really become a target market recently, partly thanks to the success of ‘The Hunger Games’ and ‘The Giver’ is very much aimed at this demographic. Although both films depict a dystopian future and a totalitarian government, ‘The Giver’ is a bit more introspective than its action packed counterpart. Its intriguing story has enough to set it apart from the obvious comparisons between the two movies and the book's popularity gives it a good chance at the box office. 2014 may very well be the year of the young adult movie, with ‘Divergent’ released soon and ‘The Maze Runner’ coming up in September, a month after ‘The Giver’.

Whilst its been a long time coming, fans of Lois Lowry's novel should remain optimistic. The years its taken to get this film off the ground means we’re expecting something really good, but this is obviously a passion project for Jeff Bridges so rest assured chances are he'll deliver.
