Jennifer Hudson is convinced her fiance saved her life by inviting her to Florida and keeping her out of her family home the day her mother and brother were shot dead.
The Dreamgirls star visited professional wrestler David Otunga in October 2008 at the same time her mum Darnell and brother Jason were gunned down in Chicago, Illinois. The body of Hudson's seven-year-old nephew Julian King was also found in a car nearby three days later.
Hudson has now revealed she too could have been a victim had she turned down Otunga's invitation to the World Wrestling Entertainment match.
She tells Ebony magazine, "That's one of the things that saved my life. Because I could have been home with my mum then. He wanted me to come out to Florida with him instead of going to Chicago. I flew out to see him; that's why I'm still here. I've never said that before, and I can't believe I just said that now. But I didn't know.
"He was just like: 'I'm going to this wrestling thing and it's in Tampa. I'm going out there now, so you can come out there and see me versus going home.'"
