Jennifer Hudson has revealed she has been teetotal her entire life and has never once tried alcohol.
Jennifer Hudson has never tried alcohol.
The 32-year-old actress has been teetotal her entire life and has never felt the need to use drink to change her mood.
Jennifer made her surprising revelation during an appearance on talk show 'Chelsea Lately' on which she was quizzed about her role as a heroin-addicted mother who is arrested leaving her two sons to fend for themselves in harrowing new drama film
'The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete'.
When asked if she has ever personally experimented with drugs by host Chelsea Handler, Jennifer replied: ''I've never done anything, so that was hard to play this role. I've never had a drink in my life. I'm sober. I'm like, 'OK, this is new to me.' Normally as an actor, you have things to pull from. I was like, 'I don't know what it's like to feel any of that.' ''
Chelsea - who has always been open about her past drug use, dabbling with ecstasy and cocaine - seemed shocked by Jennifer's revelation, asking: ''What do you mean you've never had a drink? What are you waiting for?''
To which Jennifer replied: ''I don't know. I've never been interested. Nobody ever believes it ... When I got this role, I was like, 'Oh my god, what am I going to do? What am I going to pull from to play the role?''
As she couldn't draw on personal experience, the Oscar winner - who has three-year-old son David Jr. with her fiancé, WWE Superstar David Otunga - researched the tough part by visiting ex-addicts at a rehab centre.
She said: ''The stories that I heard [were] like unbelievable.''
