The Hunger Games may have been smashing box office records across the globe but now it faces a new challenge. The post-apocalyptic action movie has been pitted against the award-winning comedy Bridesmaids in the forthcoming MTV Movie Awards. Both movies received eight nominations, compared to just two for the Twilight Saga, Reuters reports.
The Hunger Games has amassed global box office sales of around $600 million to date and has been nominated for movie of the year and best cast, amongst others. The movie's main stars, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson have both landed nominations for best actress / actor and breakthrough roles, as well. They face stiff competition from the hugely popular comedy Bridesmaids, though, which has also been tipped in the best movie and best cast categories. Kristen Wiig has also been nominated for best actress and best comedic performance.
One of the more light-hearted categories, 'Best kiss' pits Lawrence and Hutcherson against established Hollywood heat-throbs Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart(The Twilight Saga). They also face competition, though, from Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams (The Vow), Rupert Grint and Emma Watson (Harry Potter) and Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone (Crazy Stupid Love). The Mtv awards are voted on by fans, though the breakthrough actors and actresses are decided on by a panel of film directors.
