The Hunger Games Catching Fire

This week is pretty much all about The Hunger Games as Catching Fire arrives in cinemas around the world. After last week's world premiere in London, the cast headed back to America for back-to-back premieres in Los Angeles and New York. Meanwhile, a range of clips and short online features have whipped up fan frenzy to potentially record-breaking box office potential. Slightly less flashy was the New York premiere of the Christmas drama Black Nativity, attended by stars Angela Bassett, Jennifer Hudson and Forest Whitaker, all caught by paparazzi on the red carpet looking very glamorous. The film opens in time for the holidays. Meanwhile at the Rome International Film Festival, the stars were out to promote their awards contenders. Jared Leto was on hand with Dallas Buyers Club, a 1980s drama in which he plays a transgendered Aids patient alongside Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner. Critics have been singling Leto out for year-end accolades, including Oscar attention. Also in Rome, Joaquin Phoenix, Scarlett Johansson and Rooney Mara were out for the premiere of Her, the new movie by Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich) about a man who falls in love with his female-voiced new computer operating system. This film is also generating strong awards buzz, and opens soon. This week we had a new trailer for Justin Bieber's next backstage documentary Believe, which clearly hopes to build on the success of his previous movie Never Say Never. This one brings the story up to the present, with a very slightly more grown-up look at how he is coping with his fame, including recent headline-making stunts. It opens next month. We also got our first glimpse of the British romantic comedy Cuban Fury, starring Nick Frost as an average guy who studies to be a salsa dancer to catch the eye of a girl. The film looks pretty silly, but also rather enjoyably engaging. It costars Rashida Jones, Chris O'Dowd, Olivia Colman and Ian McShane and opens in February. Check out the 'Cuban Fury' trailer here.

Noah

And the big event trailer this week was for Darren Aronofsky's new epic reselling of the biblical story of Noah, starring Russell Crowe, Emma Watson, Jennifer Connelly and Anthony Hopkins. It looks like a seriously big movie, with plenty of action and emotion, as well as Aronofsky's artful filmmaking touches. It opens in March. For a first look at biblical epic 'Noah' click here.
