Jeremy Clarkson has revealed that the very first episode of his new Amazon Prime motoring show ‘The Grand Tour’ will be filmed in Johannesburg in South Africa.

After months of deliberating over what they were going to call their new show, Clarkson and his old ‘Top Gear’ co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May revealed last month that the gigantic-budget series will be called ‘The Grand Tour’ and that it would document their usual brand of vehicular mayhem in various locations around the world.

The news was announced by Clarkson himself over his official Twitter account on Thursday (June 2nd), also revealing that the episode will be taking place in mid-July in front of a live studio audience in much the same way as ‘Top Gear’ used to be recorded.

“So there we are. First stop on our Grand Tour is Johannesburg. Mid July,” he confirmed, adding: “Details on how to get tickets follow shortly.”

Amazon has subsequently announced that it will be giving away tickets for the Johannesburg studio (or “giant tent” as they called it) to competition winners who can send a picture of the “most unusual place they’ve ever put up a tent”.

Later on, he also tweeted that 'The Grand Tour' production was “definitely” heading to Europe in order to film in “several places”.

With the BBC’s re-vamped ‘Top Gear’ finally making its debut last weekend on Sunday May 29th, and Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc decidedly splitting opinion among viewers, fans of the much-loved original trio of Clarkson, Hammond and May will be waiting excitedly to see whether ‘The Grand Tour’ is better. It is due to make its debut on Amazon Prime in the autumn.
