Hats off to Jeremy Kyle, the polarising television host who was diagnosed with cancer before Christmas. The 47-year-old presenter has vowed to return to work for ITV next week to film new episodes of his popular talk show. Kyle says he is "overwhelmed" by the thousands of supportive messages he has received from his fans.

A statement from his ITV daytime programme on Twitter said: "Thank you for all the messages of support..It really does mean the world to Jeremy and he's been overwhelmed by the response." Kyle was diagnosed with testicular cancer just before Christmas though is now said to be "on the mend" after an operation and chemotherapy treatment. A former salesman, Jeremy Kyle has hosted his eponymous television programme for seven-and-a-half years, putting dysfunctional relationships into the spotlight. Many have criticised it, though ratings remain high and Kyle was nominated for the National Television Awards' best daytime TV show award this year.

The show's Facebook page has been inundated with supportive messages, with Jade Clarke saying, "ur such a amazing person Jeremy, get well soon xxxxxxxxxxx" Wendy Rollason said, "keep fighting, you can beat it! best wishes for your recovery xxx" Thomas Bolton added, "Get well soon Jeremy. You are an amazing lad and I think ITV should be very proud of a man which helps to change lives for the people of this country. Love to all the family."
