Jesse Eisenberg

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Jesse Eisenberg has tried to clarify the comments he made on Monday when he likened his Comic-Con experience to ‘some kind of genocide’. The actor had appeared at the annual convention over the weekend to promote his role as Lex Luthor in the upcoming superhero film.

Jesse EisenbergJesse Eisenberg had come under fire for comments he made about last weekend’s Comic Con.

Jesse Eisenberg Likens Comic-Con To "Genocide"

Jesse Eisenberg apparently didn’t enjoy being at Comic-Con, likening his experience at the massive convention to “some kind of genocide”. We know the crowds can be a little forceful, but seriously?

Giving a reaction to this year’s annual sci-fi and comic fest to the Associated Press on Monday (July 13th), the actor made the somewhat questionable remarks. “It is like being screamed at by thousands of people,” he reflected, “I don’t know what the experience is throughout history, probably some kind of genocide. I can’t think of anything that’s equivalent.”

The End Of The Tour Trailer

Sometimes, the biggest life lessons are the ones learned by other people. For someone desperate to earn the fame and recognition they rightly deserve, it can serve as an important revelation to see an ordinary person have fame thrust upon them. Lipsky wanted to have everything that Wallace had, but when Wallace was faced with the news that his novel had become a New York Times bestseller, his life was set to change forever.

Zack Snyder is returning with the sequel to 2013's Superman adventure 'Man Of Steel', and it's our first taste of The Justice League as they hit theaters for the first time. While the plot remains unknown, we can gather that the world has become disillusioned with Clark Kent (Henry Cavill); mistrusting of him given humanity's history with power and corruption, and fearful that their faiths are being questioned.

Night Moves Review

Very Good

This may be a slow-burning thriller about eco-terrorists, but it's also directed by Kelly Reichardt (Meek's Cutoff), a filmmaker who maintains an oddly aloof perspective while moving at her own steady pace. While this original approach offers fresh insight into the subject matter, it also creates a distance with the audience. But the subtle tone and complex morality add a strong resonance to the subject matter.

It's set in the rural American Northwest, where organic farmer Josh (Jesse Eisenberg) is collaborating with zen-retreat worker Dena (Dakota Fanning) and ex-military loose cannon Harmon (Peter Sarsgaard) to plan a bombing that will make people stop and think about what humanity is doing to the planet. Their target is a dam in Oregon that provides hydroelectric power, and their rationale is that no one needs to run their iPods 24 hours a day. After painstakingly setting up their subtle but devastating attack, they neglect to consider one possible outcome. And what follows forces them to re-examine their actions and motivations. It also causes a rift in their camaraderie that makes the outside threat feel even greater.

Despite the intense plot, this is definitely not an action movie, as Reichardt traces these three people's careful plan in sharp detail while quietly exploring the big issues that compel them to act. Oddly, these activist-terrorists seem oblivious that their violent plan is unlikely to make any difference in the grand scheme of things, and that very few people will ever understand their point. But they're such true believers that they simply can't see outside their circle. The acting is subdued and bracingly honest, creating complicated characters who say more without dialogue than with it. Sarsgaard has the most intriguing role, since Harmon has an undercurrent of menace that the others can't help but notice. And Reichardt lets the actors carry the scenes, using their expressive faces to fill in the details of the plot.

Scoot McNairy As The Flash? Green Socks Could Be 'Batman V Superman' Plot Clue

With Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman all making solid appearances in 2016's 'Batman v Superman' movie, we can't help but wonder who else will be joining the Justice League. Right now, our bets are on Scoot McNairy as The Flash.

Scoot McNairy to play The Flash?

The casting announcements for Zack Snyder's 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' have been both thoroughly exciting and extremely surprising. Of course, we knew Henry Cavill would return as the Man of Steel, we spent hours pondering who could play Wonder Woman before Gal Gadot was chosen and we were pleased on the announcement of Ben Affleck taking over Christian Bale as the Dark Knight. Rumours are still circulating that Jason Momoa might be joining the team as Aquaman, but the thing we're most excited for at the moment are recent whispers of Scoot McNairy taking on The Flash.

Night Moves Trailer

Josh (Jesse Eisenberg), a radical environmentalist teams up with high school drop-out, Dena (Dakota Fanning), and ex-marine Harmon (Peter Sarsgaard) in an attempt to send a message to the industrialised world they stand against: the bombing of a hydro-electric dam. The suspenseful political thriller delves into the world of extremists, desperate to protest in favour of their beliefs - even if it pushes them into illegal activity, doing so.

Night Moves comes to us courtesy of indie film director Kelly Reichardt, and having made the rounds of various, prestigious film festivals, it is due for a UK release this month. It has already been chosen for the official selection for the London, Venice and Toronto International Film Festival, and has enjoyed favourable reviews from critics and the public worldwide.

It has, however, been criticised for having major similarities in both in both character and plot with Edward Abbey's novel, The Monkey Wrench Gang. In 2012, a lawsuit was filed against the film, as it clashed with the novel of which a film adaptation was in pre-production.

It's Official! Jason Momoa Will Be Warner Bros.' Aquaman In "Batman Vs. Superman"

It has been confirmed: DC now has its Aquaman and it’s none other than Jason Momoa. The news that Momoa will play the DC Comics superhero Aquaman in both the upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, and its sequel Justice League was confirmed by Variety, after months of heavy speculation.

Jason Momoa
Momoa cleverly brushed off the Aquaman rumors, right until his contract was confirmed.

Back in December, it was reported that Momoa was in talks to play Aquaman, in addition to the already announced main cast, which includes Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor (that announcement raised a fair few eyebrows) and Jeremy Irons as Alfred.

Rio 2 Review

Good

After the snappy, clever 2011 original, this sequel feels rather lazy by comparison: it's still visually colourful and sometimes witty, but the overcrowded story is all over the place, mixing wacky slapstick and corny satire with a political message. And none of this is edgy enough to make it memorable, except perhaps the addition of one new character, a deranged poisonous frog with delusions of romance, voiced by the riotously operatic Kristin Chenoweth.

At the centre again are the rare blue macaws Blu and Jewel (Jesse Eisenberg and Anne Hathaway), who now have three feisty kids at their bird sanctuary in Rio de Janeiro. Then their human keepers Tulio and Linda (Rodrigo Santoro and Leslie Mann) spot another blue macaw deep in the Amazon, so Blu and Jewel fly off to investigate with their children and buddies (including Will.i.am and Jamie Foxx). Sure enough, this turns out to be Jewel's long-lost family, overseen by her father (Andy Garcia) and guarded by her heartthrob ex Roberto (Bruno Mars). But there's an evil logger threatening the rainforest, and Blu's old nemesis Nigel the cockatoo (Jemaine Clement) is out for revenge.

After the oddly flat prologue in Rio, the film kicks up a gear when it arrives in the jungle, where the imagery becomes far more dense and colourful, leading to some wonderfully outrageous musical numbers and raucous action sequences. The level of detail is impressive, as is the range of creatures thrown into the story. But the script never quite rises to this level of invention, once again simplistically putting the city-bird Blu in an alien natural environment, with added in-laws and ex-boyfriends. Much more fun is Nigel's interaction with his poison-frog sidekick, even if his subplot never builds any steam.

The Double Review

Good

After his acclaimed drama Submarine, actor-turned-filmmaker Richard Ayoade applies his considerable visual skills to this striking blackly comical adaptation of Dostoevsky's novella. Bristling with wit and snappy details, the film's style overwhelms its emotional core, leaving us unable to feel the punch of this odyssey about a young man wrestling with his own identity.

Jesse Eisenberg stars as Simon, a loner who's still anonymous at work after seven years in his desk job. Secretly in love with the copy girl Hannah (Mia Wasikowska), he watches her through a telescope from his flat and digs through her rubbish. Then just as he's assigned to mentor the surly teen daughter (Yasmin Paige) of his manager (Wallace Shawn), James meets new employee Simon (also Eisenberg), a mirror image of himself who is far more confident, fun-loving and, yes, popular with everyone in the office.

Ayoade designs the film like a drab variation on Terry Gilliam's Brazil (and more recently The Zero Theorem), with that same claustrophobic sense of overcrowded anonymity and Kaflaesque bureaucracy. It's not particularly original, but it is fun to watch, especially on a big screen where we can take in the detailed sets and costumes, as well as a steady procession of amusing cameos from the likes of Chris O'Dowd and Submarine stars Sally Hawkins, Paddy Considine, Noah Taylor and Craig Roberts. All of this adds to the general chaos of Simon's life, as well as his deep urban angst. But we're too distracted to properly sympathise with him.

The Double - Clip

Simon is a timid, uncharismatic and largely forgettable man who doesn't seem to be getting anywhere in life. He is rarely acknowledge at work and is a stranger to all his colleagues, his mother is disappointed in his lacklustre life and to top it all off, the woman he loves, Hannah, remains firmly indifferent to his existence. With his future hanging in the balance as he fails to make an impression on anybody, his life is further thrust into oblivion with the arrival of his doppelganger and complete opposite, James - who is newly employed at Simon's work. Unlike Simon, James captivates everyone he meets and is destined for success - even Hannah has his attention as he rapidly takes over Simon's life. With everybody else totally ignorant of the creepy resemblance, Simon is forced to snatch his life back by any means possible.
