Jessica Alba Has Spoken Out To Defend Her Lifestyle Company Following A Raft Of Complaints Over The Effectiveness Of A Sunscreen Product.
The Hollywood actress set up The Honest Company in 2012 to sell non-toxic items including diapers, household cleaners and beauty products, and it recently hit headlines after being given a valuation of $1 billion.
However, Alba's firm was back in the news last month (Jul15) after a number of customers complained that a sun protection lotion did not work and they were left with painful burns after spending time outdoors.
The company previously backed the product in a statement, insisting the cream was extensively tested, but now Alba has stepped forward to address the row, promising to take the complaints seriously.
She took to Instagram.com to share a picture of herself standing on a beach with her two young daughters and added in a caption, "Protecting our loved ones and yours is the reason we founded Honest. As parents, it pains us to hear that anyone has had a negative experience with our Sunscreen. We develop and use Honest Sunscreen to protect our own children... at the park, in the pool, outside, every day. As with everything we do, we take sun protection seriously here at Honest."
Alba adds in an open letter co-written with her business partner Christopher Gavigan, "What matters most to us is your trust and confidence... We've personally picked up the phone to speak with many of you who have called our customer service hotline. Our team is reaching out to everyone who has posted on social media to assure you that we're committed to your safety and satisfaction. For those who have expressed concerns about our Sunscreen Lotion, we want you to know that we hear you and we're here for you. As always, we'll do what it takes to make it right."
